Searching for a version of La Vie En Rose made up of random French words strung together.......when sung with much feeling and pathos it is very funny, even though linguistically it made no sense whatsoever. I don't even know if it exists on paper (on screen?) but I have heard it sung at a festival. Perhaps it was written by the bloke who sang it.

Any clues or ideas would be gratefully received!

There's a Judy Small recording at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4UXMHslB6U It's on her 1996 album, Global Village. The Ballpoint Penguins call it La Vie En Pose, and it's on their CD, Flights of Fancy.

That's really funny. I love Edith Piaf and I loved Judy Small's parody. The sometime (sub)title, "The French Song," is a little confusing because there was a 1965 hit by Lucille Starr with that title ("Quand le solei dit bonjour aux montagnes . . . Je suis seul, je ne veux pense qu'a toi," which is also lovely but (over) ripe for parody. I wish someone would take a crack at it.

I have downloaded copies of this and other well-known 1950's French tunes and sadly they come with sets of words in English that bear absolutely no resemblance to the original ones. They are so bad as to be almost parodies in themselves.

Guest Ebor Fiddler - is that where you live? If so, you're only a couple of hours from me.

There was another spoof "French" song I remember Derek Brimstone doing, numerous times; handily entitled "Piss Off". Anyone remember it/have the words/knows who wrote it?

A variation on this theme is Kenneth Williams and "Ma Crepe Suzette" approximately to the tune of Auld Lang Syne
