President Trump and President Putin have just held an almost three hour meeting at the G 20 and no one at Mudcat central has heard about it! Apparently the meeting went well and détente has broken out between East and West.....How awful say the "liberals", but a ceasefire has been proposed in Syria and co-operation of the great powers sought in order to end the conflict.

This is why I supported DJs campaign, or one of the reasons.
The Clinton/Obama administration simply could not make any move towards détente.
It would be interesting to hear the views of US liberals on this issue, without rancour or name calling please.

Interesting exercise in politicking going on at present
Russia is suspected of tampering in US elections
Trump does his best to block an enquiry into the claims
Trump meets Putin and they get on well
In a few days Trump will announce that he is convinced there is no basis to the claims - the accused is allowed to be judge and jury of his own case
Voila - both of them are lifted neatly off the hook without having to accept the result of an enquiry

Please explain how Russia can "tamper with US elections".

Was it through the Wikileaks revelation regarding DP corruption?
Did they sift through election boxes changing Clinton votes to Trump votes?
What exactly did they...Could they do?
DJs expressed admiration for Vladimir as "a strong leader" would seem to me more of a hindrance than a help to his campaign to gain the support of the US electorate.....especially "blue collar" America.

America was facing the possibility of having a Bush or a Clinton in the White House for 26 years. Anything new looked good in comparison. They got what that kind of thinking deserved.

Russia is demanding all data on the Russia election hacking investigations from 17 US intelligence agencies. Trump may actually order that the data be handed over to the Russians. Place your bets!

With a mix of paper and electronics for voting perhaps water does need to run uphill in order for tampering to occur.

What makes tampering even more unlikely is that America has a history going way back of tampering with other countries elections.
Do you seriously believe that with such a dubious background that they do not make doubly sure their own elections are tamper proof?
Putin pottering about and interfering with american elections makes a good soundbite- but thus far not a scintilla of proof.

Thanks for that Joe. Only through a completely new relationship can Syria and perhaps the world be saved from catastrophe. We need to understand that other countries especially in the Middle East, which have strong factional religious traditions, cannot be moulded into something which will be advantageous to the powerful bodies which pull the strings of Western economies.
They, like ourselves are in a process of evolution, the "strong men" are still required as is evident from the shamble created by Western intervention in the Middle East and North Africa....for the shabbiest of reasons.
Perhaps the relationship between Donal John and Vladimir will usher in a period of co-operation based on trade between East and West, hopefully leading to a better understanding of what is in all our interests and in the future a change in our society from conflict to co-operation.
