Subject: RE: BS: Catholic Abuse of Children From: Senoufou Date: 18 Jul 17 - 05:16 PM I was a pupil in State schools from the early fifties, and a teacher all my working life. I was smacked on the hand a few times, and have smacked pupils on the hand too (but not often) In Scotland I saw the tawse used sometimes, and found it unpleasant and overly violent. But I have never seen anyone smack a child on the face. It seems to me that anyone who would do this is completely lacking in self control, and is a cruel bully. |
Subject: RE: BS: Catholic Abuse of Children From: bobad Date: 18 Jul 17 - 05:16 PM Oh- so you're Catholic, Bo. Not any longer. |
Subject: RE: BS: Catholic Abuse of Children From: bobad Date: 18 Jul 17 - 05:12 PM Bromance with Joe ........ lol, he called me evil - never been called that before but I might take to it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Catholic Abuse of Children From: Greg F. Date: 18 Jul 17 - 05:07 PM Oh- so you're Catholic, Bo. That explains a great deal about your bromance with Joe. |
Subject: RE: BS: Catholic Abuse of Children From: bobad Date: 18 Jul 17 - 04:54 PM The brother of Pope Benedict has in fact admitted to "... slapping pupils round the face..." but added that he didn't realise this was physical abuse. (!!!) Being slapped round the face would have been considered mild punishment compared to what was meted out at the Catholic school I attended. Times have changed since then though and a teacher doing what was done then would be jailed today. Even parents were disinclined to sympathize maintaining, more often than not, that if you were beaten then you must have done something to deserve it. Needless to say there wasn't a big problem with discipline at my school. |
Subject: RE: BS: Catholic Abuse of Children From: Joe Offer Date: 18 Jul 17 - 03:51 PM Akenaton, the offenses described have a definite connection to the Catholic Church. It's hard to understand why nobody was able to stop the hundreds of crimes committed by these two offenders; and the harm caused to all these hundreds of children, is beyond belief. Sexual abuse of children goes on unimpeded every day all over the world, not just in churches. Many of the victims become perpetrators as adults, so the cycle multiplies. This abuse needs to be rooted out and stopped, wherever it happens. The press says that the two perpetrators were choir directors. I did not see anything that said whether they were priests or not. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: BS: Catholic Abuse of Children From: keberoxu Date: 18 Jul 17 - 03:45 PM Who was the seer in Eire/Ireland who said, The clergy will bring down the church? Spot on. |
Subject: RE: BS: Catholic Abuse of Children From: Senoufou Date: 18 Jul 17 - 02:58 PM The brother of Pope Benedict has in fact admitted to "... slapping pupils round the face..." but added that he didn't realise this was physical abuse. (!!!) I've just watched a recent recording on Youtube of the Regensburger Domspatzen choir singing 'Engel Auf Den Feldern' and seeing those young earnest faces breaks one's heart. There were many, many victims of abuse spanning decades, and they described their incarceration as like being in a concentration camp. They were deprived of food as punishment, and if they ran away were brought back and beaten in front of all the others. There was sadism and sexual abuse of many, by many. Sometimes the sheer wickedness in the world defeats me. One loses hope. |
Subject: RE: BS: Catholic Abuse of Children From: Keith A of Hertford Date: 18 Jul 17 - 02:44 PM Some would have us believe that this appalling abuse is confined to members of the Asian community No-one on Mudcat has ever been so stupid Rag. Why say it? |
Subject: RE: BS: Catholic Abuse of Children From: Joe Offer Date: 18 Jul 17 - 02:41 PM It's the Regensburger Domspatzen, Raggytash. The abuse was first reported in 2010, and the facts of the case haven't changed much since it was first reported. Two choir directors were named as perpetrators - both died in 1986. The abuse offenses began in about 1958, and there were hundreds of victims. There hasn't been much new in the press about this scandal since it was first reported in 2010. The Süddeutsche Zeitung had an article today about the completion of payment of reparations to the victims. There was a lot of press coverage about this scandal because the former director of the choir is the brother of Pope Benedict XVI. The pope's brother was not a suspect in the investigation of these crimes. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: BS: Catholic Abuse of Children From: Raggytash Date: 18 Jul 17 - 02:38 PM I am astonished that anyone could start making excuses for such abuse. Are the hundreds of children who reported abuse over decades all misguided Akenaton, all they all telling lie. Is it a conspriacy against the catholic church, are the 49 members of the clergy who perputated this abuse all innocent of all charges laid against them. If so, please provide your evidence to support your claim. |
Subject: RE: BS: Catholic Abuse of Children From: akenaton Date: 18 Jul 17 - 02:31 PM These abuses have only a tentative connection with the Catholic Church. Most of the last batch were simple sexual assault by adult males against teenage boys and youths under 17. The connection is that a large number of the priesthood are homosexual attracted by the Celibacy Rule a recipe for disaster. Genuine paedophilia is very uncommon among Catholic Priests. |
Subject: RE: BS: Catholic Abuse of Children From: Greg F. Date: 18 Jul 17 - 02:28 PM Joe should close this in about a nanosecond, Rag. Thou shalt not criticize the Catholic Church - or the Government of Israel. |
Subject: BS: Catholic Abuse of Children From: Raggytash Date: 18 Jul 17 - 02:21 PM I read today on the BBC News of yet another example of abuse of children by members of the catholic church, this time in Germany at the Rensburger Domspatzen Boys Choir. It would seem that this abuse occured over many decades and involved hundreds of young boys and almost 50 members of the clergy. Some would have us believe that this appalling abuse is confined to members of the Asian community, this story once again gives the lie to that view. |
