Saddened by the news of the death this morning of John Byrne Cooke. He had been ill for a long time, so it wasn't a surprise, but still. A true Renaissance man, John was a musician (played bluegrass with the Charles River Valley Boys), photographer, writer (recent book about his long working friendship with Janis Joplin) and all around good man. I'll miss him very much.

Wasn't he the son of BBC broadcaster Alistair Cooke?

"Wasn't he the son of BBC broadcaster Alistair Cooke?"

Yes. And on his mother's side, the great-grandnephew of Ralph Waldo Emerson, or so the web states.
