Subject: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Steve Shaw Date: 17 Nov 17 - 05:57 AM I'm getting this almost every time I click on the "detrace" thingie and quite often when I send a post. Hitting the refresh button usually resolves it. Is it just me? I'm a iPad man... |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Michael Date: 17 Nov 17 - 06:15 AM Mudcat is one of my pages set to open when I switch on; for the last couple of days I've been getting that message. I click on 'refresh' and all's well. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: GUEST Date: 17 Nov 17 - 06:17 AM Same here on Windows. First few times I just assumed that the site was down again. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: GUEST,Ian Hendrie Date: 17 Nov 17 - 06:27 AM I've also been getting this intermittent problem. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: JHW Date: 17 Nov 17 - 07:46 AM not today but a few times. coming back to the page it was fine |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Stanron Date: 17 Nov 17 - 07:55 AM Yes I am getting this too. Firefox browser on Linux Mint. Only with Mudcat, not on other sites. Intermittent. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Dave the Gnome Date: 17 Nov 17 - 07:57 AM I think Max may have dome an update. It will just be one of those niggles that will be resolved in time. DtG |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Snuffy Date: 17 Nov 17 - 08:52 AM If I choose "Open link in new tab" I get the error more than 50% of the time, but almost never if I click to open it in the current window! (I'm on Chrome) |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 17 Nov 17 - 09:00 AM Yes, ditto. Opening pages, opening this thread just now even. Second attempt usually successful. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Stilly River Sage Date: 17 Nov 17 - 09:02 AM Max is aware of this - and has been doing a lot of work on the site and servers lately. If you mouse over the link you want to go to, leave the mouse there for a moment longer than normal and you'll see the link fills out - and then go ahead and click through. Not sure why, but that's what works for me for now. (Always keep a copy of your post for "just in case it doesn't go through," and you might skip the "preview" step until this is resolved.) |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: JHW Date: 17 Nov 17 - 06:02 PM Server Error 500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. And it did it again when Itried to post this! |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Steve Shaw Date: 17 Nov 17 - 06:08 PM It's got worse today, but you can always get by. Patience is the watchword! |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: RTim Date: 17 Nov 17 - 06:28 PM I am getting it everytime I try to get into the system - But then it works ok seconds later...........?? Tim Radford |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Jackaroodave Date: 17 Nov 17 - 08:31 PM FYI: Using Mac system 10.9.5, Chrome browser, I get 500 error on entering site and on clicking any internal link, all remedied by refreshing the page. BUT I do not get an error using the search engine and clicking on links it brings up or any subsequent links. So I guess that's a workaround for me: Open the site, refresh, search for something, go back to the main page and it's all good from there on. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Mr Red Date: 18 Nov 17 - 02:17 AM FireFox 56 I get it occasionally. More likely when I post, or Preview. I suspect that modern browsers poll servers in obscure ways to send the browsing history. Probably to dleclick.com (other snoopware is available, not least Goggle.com). Maybe Mudcat is ignoring some of the polls. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Stanron Date: 18 Nov 17 - 08:55 AM It's not happened today. Maybe it's fixed. |

Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: DaveRo Date: 18 Nov 17 - 09:24 AM Yes, still happening. Like it says, it's a server-end problem, but may depend on what you're requesting the server to do. As others have noted, an immediate refresh often works (not always) which is maybe significant. It's as if it couldn't complete the request the first time but it's 'ready for it' the second time. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: DaveRo Date: 18 Nov 17 - 09:26 AM Hmmm. So it posted, an then gave me an error. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: rich-joy Date: 18 Nov 17 - 06:46 PM Yeah, still getting it a lot (I'm on Windows with Firefox) .... I just keep clicking away and it eventually works! R-J |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: punkfolkrocker Date: 18 Nov 17 - 06:51 PM Mudcat is becoming like any aging cherished favourite item of equipment which needs to be tapped firmly a few times with a spanner to get it working... |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Stanron Date: 19 Nov 17 - 03:23 AM Yes, since a period of no fault yesterday, I have had a couple of '500 - Internal server error.' messages. My solution is to put the cursor, 'caret?', at the end of the URL above the message and press 'Enter'. This gets the actual page. It's not a big deal. Far better to have this than no Mudcat at all. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: DaveRo Date: 19 Nov 17 - 04:13 AM With curl I got HTTP/1.1 500 License Error See http://www.cjoint.com/data/GKtjhcviA6l_curloutput.txt |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: JHW Date: 19 Nov 17 - 05:27 AM Ah yes |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Backwoodsman Date: 19 Nov 17 - 05:35 AM '504 server error'. Just got it, been happening for several days. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Backwoodsman Date: 19 Nov 17 - 05:36 AM Sorry, that s/b '500internal server error'. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Mr Red Date: 19 Nov 17 - 06:21 AM Don't be too hasty blaming Max. I have seen (including just today) on BT Sport catch-up (or live) Error VC410 (with fatuous explanations that don't fit the scenario) re-fresh, log in again and bingo - no sign of error. This may be something to do with Micro$oft updates, browser updtes, BT's CDN ( wizardry to prioritise video content - providing you have paid a bit more) or some magic update in Linux servers around the world. Who knows - they aren't telling. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Stilly River Sage Date: 19 Nov 17 - 09:36 AM It's pretty frustrating this morning, to be sure. Hesitating over the button or link before clicking does seem to help, but it's an extra step one normally wouldn't have to take. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: DaveRo Date: 19 Nov 17 - 11:14 AM In case it helps Max locate the error... I thought that '500 License Error' was odd - certainly uncommon. Turns out you only get it with http/1.1; in Firefox with http/2 I get '500 internal Server Error'. I can get 'License Error' if I disable http/2. That's in the raw headers; the message on screen is '500 - Internal server error.' in both cases. Two screenshots from Firefox here - http/2 at the top and 1.1 below: http://www.cjoint.com/data/GKtp3JZGcwl_mudcat-500.png I find a request on the heels of another is more likely to succeed - e.g. when (I'm about to) post this. |
Subject: RE: Tech: 500 internal server error From: Max Date: 19 Nov 17 - 01:30 PM Made significant progress on this today. Had to upgrade our Webserver software and our Application Server software. Still might have to make a few more changes, but I think we're in a much better place now. It's costing us $1,600. I'm willing to pay it, but the mods are encouraging me to start a fundraiser to help. Just a few dollars is a-ok.
Best ways to go is Paypal:
