Subject: New Film...Dingle to Santiago by curragh From: mg Date: 20 Mar 18 - 04:04 PM They are from Dingle area, but probably started voyage in Dublin. I am just learning about this now, having to do with my upcoming trip to Dingle. It has to do with a poet, two musicians, a stone mason, making a trip in segments in a boat similar to a currach, from Dublin to Cornwall to Brittany to Spain. Others can elaborate. One of the men lost his life on the journey. Have any new songs emerged from this journey? The film just came out a month ago. I am sure it is beautiful. http://www.anupictures.com/project/camino/ dingle camino |
Subject: RE: New Film...Dingle to Santiago by curragh From: mg Date: 20 Mar 18 - 04:12 PM I should say that there is a church in Dingle, St. James (maybe St. John), Church ofIreland I believe..where you can start the camino of spain. Pilgrims used to go by sea from ireland. You can do fifteen miles or so of the pilgrimage now in Ireland, and then get to spain and walk and get miles that you keep track of. I have really wanted to do the spain camino but could not yet, and i am so thrilled that i can do part of it in ireland. you could walk that far just to get groceries where I am staying in Dunquin.... The boat I believe is named the Gobnait..wonder if that is after the patron of the church in Dunquin..St. Gobnitz. she has a holy well nearby. She had a helmet and it turned into bees who stung her enemy. |

Subject: RE: New Film...Dingle to Santiago by curragh From: FreddyHeadey Date: 21 Mar 18 - 08:04 AM Thanks, the film looks fascinating. ~~~~~ St. James (maybe St. John), in ~2016 googlemaps had St James's in Dingle labelled as "St Johns". It has been corrected. |

Subject: RE: New Film...Dingle to Santiago by curragh From: Iains Date: 21 Mar 18 - 03:51 PM There are many pilgrim routes converging on Santiago de Compostella in Galicia, many signposted with a scallop shell. Many pilgrims are still seen today. I spent some years in Galicia and pilgrims were a common sight. It certainly makes a walking holiday with a difference. https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/europe/camino-de-santiago-walks-pilgrimage-trail-spain-st-james-path-compostela-luxury-trav http://santiago-compostela.net/ |
