Can anyone name the tune played in the background during the 2018 BBC2 Radio Folk Awards when Donal Lunny comes up to receive his Lifetime Achievement award from Van Morrison? This was held at the Waterfront, Belfast, and was televised from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm on BBC2 on Sunday 8th April 2018 and again on BBC1 from 11.10 pm on Monday 9th April to 12.10 am on Tuesday 10th April 2018. It can be seen from 24.43 to 25.12, if you have access to the on-line BBC iPlayer at https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b09ynzy2/bbc-radio-2-folk-awards-2018-2-highlights (this only applies to residents in the UK, and the footage is only visible for a few weeks). I wasn't at the event (or I would have asked someone the name of it) though I did recognise someone I know in the audience!

I have heard the tune before, but didn't know, or have forgotten, the name of it. Incidentally does anyone know a website which in effect should be called "Name That Tune", where someone could post a few bars (either sung or played by themselves) on to the website (at least temporarily) to enable someone else to identify it, or alternatively, ask "What Tune is used in the Advert for ---, or what is the theme tune for a particular TV programme, etc?"

The tune is The Kesh Jig, the first tune of the first set of the first Bothy Band album, featuring Donal Lunny et al.

You could try http://www.folktunefinder.com/ to search for tunes.

Gordon

Arguably the most commonly played tune in sessions for the last 30 years, 'The Wild Rover' of tunes. A great tune despite that.

Probably in no small way thanks to The Bothy Band's recording in 1975!

Thanks for the quick reply confirming the name (Kesh Jig), which I had heard the name of. I went to http://www.folktunefinder.com/ and tried clicking on a few notes, but nothing happened (I was expecting them to appear on the lines at the top of the screen).
