Subject: Morris as a rain dance From: Dave the Gnome Date: 16 Jun 18 - 11:15 AM Local gala. We were booked to dance outside the pub at 3pm. Lovely weather until I struck up the compulsory 'warning this is morris' chord and the first drops of rain fell. By the end of one iteration of 'Winster processional' it was coming down in buckets. God hates Morris. :D tG |
Subject: RE: Morris as a rain dance From: Tattie Bogle Date: 16 Jun 18 - 12:50 PM It applies to Scottish music too, Dave: 2 "summer" outdoor events today wiped out by rain, but at least didn't even leave the house, as it was p'ing down all morning and forecast to continue for the day! I have been known to play my box underneath a very large poncho, but have to make sure I start on the right button! |
Subject: RE: Morris as a rain dance From: leeneia Date: 16 Jun 18 - 07:27 PM Bad luck, Dave. I hope you got to perform after the rain stopped. But God doesn't have Morris. If you keep up with astronomy, you realize that God is busy playing with quasars, black holes, X-ray jets, supernovae, etc. I fear He's just not paying proper attention anymore. |
Subject: RE: Morris as a rain dance From: Mr Red Date: 17 Jun 18 - 03:01 AM use the buckets for the collection and was there Morris to celebrate Queen Liz's coronation all those years ago? 'Cos that would have made a reign dance. I'll get my baldrics............... |
Subject: RE: Morris as a rain dance From: Mr Red Date: 17 Jun 18 - 03:04 AM I posted on 'tother thread I am sure a mudelf will combine us. |

Subject: RE: Morris as a rain dance From: Mo the caller Date: 18 Jun 18 - 01:56 PM I have called for 'synchronised under-water maypole dancing' I was discussing this with the leader of Adlington dancers yesterday. They all had transparent raincoats, and an umbrella no don't hold it over me - over the instrument!' |
Subject: RE: Morris as a rain dance From: leeneia Date: 19 Jun 18 - 11:25 AM Try a golf umbrella. It's huge. |
Subject: RE: Morris as a rain dance From: GUEST,Susie Date: 21 Jun 18 - 01:38 AM Paul Ferrett of Foxwhelp Morris [s.w. Herefordshire] plays his melodeon in a black bin bag when it rains. Mustn't get it wet! |
Subject: RE: Morris as a rain dance From: Dave the Gnome Date: 21 Jun 18 - 03:43 AM I've done that before. Stops the public getting frightened off by the sight of a concertina as well :-) |
Subject: RE: Morris as a rain dance From: Mo the caller Date: 21 Jun 18 - 04:56 AM Works for babies too. Large plastic bag worn by Mum as poncho (yes, I know, don't suffocate him) |

Subject: RE: Morris as a rain dance From: Tattie Bogle Date: 21 Jun 18 - 05:49 PM I do remember one year at Sidmouth when all the squeezers were playing under black bin bags for the Sunday morning on the prom! My huge poncho came courtesy of one of the Moonwalks around Edinburgh: my son was on - wait for it - water patrol - handing out bottles of water to the walkers: but it didn't rain then, so i snaffled the poncho! And very useful it has been! |
