I am rehearsing with Tatton Singers for our concert on Saturday, this week we have 3 rehearsals and the concert.

The pollen count is high and my throat doesn't feel right (plus snivelly nose)

I prefer to avoid medication, but wonder if I should be taking antihistamines this week. Do they have any vocal side-effects?

I have suffered hay fever all my adult life ~ I start taking the Beconase in mid April (the inhaler) it takes a while to be active but does not interfere with alcohol consumption! Short term meds cause the sort of problems you have (sorry!)

You may have a cold of course and an odd paracetamol may be a good idea?

Ray

Thanks, I did wonder if I'd be causing more problems than I solved.

I've had hay fever all my life. I find a combination of Beconase spray and Loratadine tablets works well for singing. Some people prefer Citirizine tablets. Both are cheap to buy in Home Bargains and the like. (NOT Boots!!)

Love from the Millstone Band

Read this and see if your symptoms sound right.

Until the concert, avoid coffee, chocolate and caffeine, three things that dry your throat. (Got that advice from a magazine article on The Throat Doctor to the Country Western Stars.) Drink water.

I have a relative who is a gifted soprano. She says to drink lukewarm water when your throat is raspy.

I saw a television item questioning the theory that local honey is a remedy for hayfever. They concluded that for there to be any benefit, the honey should come from within a range of about three miles.
I recently saw a honey seller at what claimed to be a farmers' market. She said she was selling 'local' honey, but it turned out that what she was selling was 'English honey'.
