Subject: info req: Kingston Trio, 2018 version From: keberoxu Date: 27 Jun 18 - 11:52 AM You know, the discussion about the Kingston Trio which dates from the 20th century is well-established at the Mudcat Cafe forum. It will no doubt continue on threads old and new. However: A "Kingston Trio" appearance is being promoted in my area. I looked to the Mudcat, search feature and all, for information on this iteration of the group. I looked under the individual names of the current Trio members. I can't find any mention of THEIR three names here. So, fine, the rest of you go on talking about Bob Shane and his former Trio fellows who have passed away. There ought to be one measly thread at the Mudcat for the 2018 iteration. And if nobody else will start it, I will. Here is how I piece it together; if I say something erroneous, I'm counting on other Mudcat members to call me out and to correct me here. Some time ago there was a modest musical group that called itself "The Lion Sons." And, no, I never heard of them at the time. Their membership was: Josh Reynolds, son of Nick Reynolds of the Kingston Trio. Mike Marvin, blood relative of the Nick Reynolds family; "taken in as part of the Reynolds family as a teenager." Tim Gorelangton, Hawa'ii native, Army veteran. No further info on how Josh Reynolds and Mike Marvin encountered him. And I have no information on how these three men, from the same generation, became The Kingston Trio after Bob Shane stepped down. On Sept. 22 they will perform in the Greater Boston Metro area. I'm not certain if it will be the Foxborough Orpheum Theatre or the church coffeehouse in Wrentham. |
Subject: RE: info req: Kingston Trio, 2018 version From: pdq Date: 27 Jun 18 - 01:06 PM I read somewhere that Bob (Shane) recently leased the rights to the "KINGSTON TRIO" name to Josh Reynolds (August 10, 2017). |

Subject: RE: info req: Kingston Trio, 2018 version From: keberoxu Date: 29 Jun 18 - 12:42 PM About the current Kingston Trio tour: you can look it up at the website given in the previous post, but some remarks here won't do any harm either. Whoever put this tour together knew what they were doing. All the venues are either coffeehouses, concert halls, or other modest situations: no stadiums here. Well, there is one Las Vegas casino, but that's 2019. They're taking Christmas and New Year's off, and they come back the following week. This July they perform in Annapolis, Maryland. Straight after that they go to Beverly, Massachusetts and Plymouth, New Hampshire; then they are off to the Caffé Lena in Saratoga Springs, NY. In September they return to New England, and besides the date at the Wrentham church coffeehouse (near I-495), they perform in Orono, Maine; Arundel, Maine; and Hartford, CT. At the end of September they head to California, where they play: Modesto, Redding, Folsom, and Glendora. Mid-October to Wisconsin: Ashwaubenon and Fish Creek. Yo! Acme! They're headed to Texas in November. Arlington, The Woodlands, and San Antonio. Well, Max. State College is a long ways from anyplace, but: York, Pennsylvania is east of the Susquehanna River and south of Harrisburg, and the Kingston Trio is playing York on November 8, 2018. Tarrytown, New York, the next evening. Still November, just before Thanksgiving, they head back to California: San Juan Capistrano, Lancaster, and Poway. In December, before they take time off for the holidays, they appear in Arlington Heights, Illinois. January 2019, dates in Florida: Englewood, Ft. Pierce, Largo, Bradenton, Panama City. Back to Texas: Victoria and New Braunfels. February 2019, more in Florida: Plant City (Florida Strawberry Festival), Sun City, Palm Beach Gardens, Vero Beach Sherwood Park in Alberta, CA, on March 15. Saratoga, California, in April, 2019, and Sacramento in May. I left out a bunch of Wyoming dates. And other stuff. |
