The man is obviously having a total blast, the poor woman looks as bored as a mattress between the bedposts. Sincerely, Gargoyle plays just fine...and I am not a Facebook member |
Subject: RE: Pretty amazing! (accordions) From: Murpholly Date: 30 Aug 18 - 04:49 AM Does anyone else find it irritating that these are called accordions when in fact they are melodions. Hubby plays accordion, button accordion And melodion not to mention concertina. They are all different and need different playing styles. |

Subject: RE: Pretty amazing! (accordions) From: GUEST Date: 30 Aug 18 - 05:38 AM ‘Chromatic accordion. This is the typical button-accordion type which is used in Irish music. … Melodeon. This has a more guttural sound than the accordion proper. … Typically, it has ten buttons all in one row’ (Companion to Irish Traditional Music, Fintan Vallely, 2011). As Manitas_at_home says, ‘melodeon’ is usually used in England to mean ‘button accordion’. She is Sam Sloan, winner of many All-Ireland and All-Britain titles in button accordion, melodeon and anglo concertina. She plays in a band called The Jones Boys. He is Tim Edey, former member of Lunasa and a past Radio 2 Musician of the Year. They were snapped playing an impromptu jam during a pub session at Broadstairs Folk Week. |
Subject: RE: Pretty amazing! (accordions) From: Manitas_at_home Date: 30 Aug 18 - 07:14 AM I don't think Sam is bored but she is having a struggle with that box. It looks heavier than Tim's and she is having to do a lot more bellows work. Plus accordion players of all kinss are not noted for being smiley happy bunnies while playing. Theres's no reason why a melodeon should have a more gutteral sound than the 'accordion proper' - this is down to how the instrument is tuned and played rather than how the buttons and reeds are arranged. |
Subject: RE: Pretty amazing! (accordions) From: GUEST,Ross unhinged Date: 30 Aug 18 - 06:28 PM The sound is awful, the playing suggests a race to the finish rather than "playing together". I'm surprised anyone thought it worth posting. Ross |
