Subject: Obit: Trevor Lister From: GUEST,Fantum Date: 21 Aug 18 - 02:51 PM I have heard today of the passing of Trevor Lister of Middlesbrough I have no details and I hope someone can add more information to this thread. I first met Trevor when he ran the folk club at Osmotherly and after that we met at intervals for the next 20 years. His great claim to fame was he published the Folk Roundabout Magazine which was the last word on folk events in the area. Somewhere in there he found time to Run a festival at Natures World Middlesbrough and later he was still singing in local clubs. When he meets with the Heavenly Choir lets hope they have a good folk repertoire Fantum |
Subject: RE: 2018 Obit: Trevor Lister of Middlesbrough From: MoorleyMan Date: 21 Aug 18 - 04:42 PM I too only heard today of Trevor's passing. He died of cancer last Thursday after a brief spell in James Cook Hospital, only a few months short of his 85th birthday. Trevor was indeed a fine fellow and a genuine old-school folk scene stalwart. He had a wry - and sometimes quite wicked - sense of humour that was balanced by a true compassion. I had the privilege of working closely with Trevor for many years, both on Folk Roundabout magazine and in organising the Nature's World festival, and often travelled with him to Stockton Folk Club in the club's "Ron Angel years". Although he "retired" from both activities around five years ago, he maintained a lively interest in the folk music scene right up to the end; latterly he sang mostly at the Cutty Wren at Redcar. His distinctive presence will be much missed. RIP Trev. Keep banging on yer bodhran and keep the Salvation Band going up there! |

Subject: RE: Obit: Trevor Lister of Middlesbrough 16 Aug. 2018 From: GUEST,jim bainbridge Date: 22 Aug 18 - 03:56 PM Very sad to hear this- I knew he had been ill, but still a shock. Well remembered for his Nature's World festival in 'Boro' and also met him a few times at the Sun in Stockton. A gentle man with a dry sense of humour- I was always glad to see him- he knew where I was coming from in my particular version of 'folk' and I'm always grateful for that... rest in peace, old pal |

Subject: RE: Obit: Trevor Lister of Middlesbrough 16 Aug. 2018 From: Waddon Pete Date: 26 Aug 18 - 05:39 AM I am surprised this is not a longer thread. Folk Club organisers, folk magazine editors and festival organisers are few and far between. My deepest sympathy to his friends and family. RIP Peter |
Subject: RE: Obit: Trevor Lister of Middlesbrough 16 Aug. 2018 From: The Sandman Date: 26 Aug 18 - 05:51 AM I first met Trevor at whitby in 1976, a gentleman and genuinely pleasant man, who ran folk roundabout for many years, a stalwart of the teeside and yorkshire folk scene |
Subject: RE: Obit: Trevor Lister of Middlesbrough 16 Aug. 2018 From: JHW Date: 26 Aug 18 - 07:09 AM Trevor was thoroughly good hearted. Good to hear at his send-off at Kirkleatham how very able he was time and again in different careers he took on, all beyond what we know of him in Folk circles. RIP |
