I also liked it more than modern jazz... and I've not even watched or listened to any of it yet...

I enjoyed it, perhaps more than the UK Folk Prom. As for Gypsy Professional cafe music, it all had it's origin in the country's traditional music. As did most of the UK Folk Prom. And if the performers were all professional, well so were the performers in the UK Folk Prom, weren't they? Not all the music played was cafe music and I'm not knowledgeable enough to say whether what was played was Hungarian Folk or not. Actually I'm not sure that I am qualified to say if the content of the UK Folk Prom was UK folk or not.

If you liked it, you liked it and if you didn't you didn't. I did, a lot more than rap, punk or modern jazz.

At a guess, Gypsy professional cafe music. Nothing to do with Hungarian folk of any kind.

Well it looks as if there won't be any sexist comments about the weight or possible pregnancy of the female performers then.

I think it's this trio: József Lendvay Sr and József Lendvay Jr (violins),
Jeno Lisztes (cimbalom).

7:30-9:15 tonight on BBC 4. Proms concert featuring Hungarian folk music. The blurb says;

Hungary's folk rhythms beat through the heart of this concert as the inimitable forces of the Budapest Festival Orchestra and founder-conductor Ivan Fischer return to the Proms with an ode to their homeland. Joining them on stage is a thrilling trio of the country's best folk musicians and together they showcase why these tunes have been such a rich source of inspiration to composers across history. Here, London's Royal Albert Hall resounds with a selection of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies and Brahms' Hungarian Dances as never heard before, and concludes with Brahms' dramatic First Symphony. Presented by Lloyd Coleman.

How will this compare with the UK Folk Prom?
