Here you go Jim, a thread just for you. Now kindly stop buggering up the thread on the Kaiser's Holocaust.

Sorry Rag - this is not the first time you have blamed me for something like this
You are getting as bad as Keith in trying to confine threads to your own comfort zone
The the period between the beginning of the 20th century and the end of WW1 was one of mass slaughter - all related directly to profiteering and Imperial expansion
Trying to deal with any of them in isolation is arificial
The problem is not comparing the Kaiser massacres and those that happened in the Congo, but lies with the people who made the thread a political platform in order to minimise those two massacres by dragging in irrelevent occurrences several decades later -
I suggest you talk to them, as I indicated to Dick, I was ready to drop it
Now I am not so sure
Jim

If you care to chck your facts, you will see Jack Campin made the pointy before I dis
"Small potatoes compared with the Belgians and French in the Congo, though."

Jim, it takes two to tango and, as we keep saying, ignore the trolls. Raggy, Steve, myself and some others no longer react to their nonsense directly and talk around rather than to them. It keeps threads a lot cleaner but as long as you keep addressing them, they will continue posting their nonsense and getting their rocks off on all the attention you lavish on them.

I am not saying this as a criticism of your valiant efforts to put them in their place but as a suggestion of what may be a better way. As with any other advice you are free to take it or leave it.

I accept your points - both Dave and Raggy, but I really don't mak3e the4 comments I make to defeat the Trolls - I do so because I believe they are relevant to the discussion
If you are gouing to draw barriers on discussions you lay the practice open to those who do so when the arguments become uncomfortable
Anyway - let's leave it there for now
Jim

I'll make the same comment, Jim. In fact I am making the same comments on Raggy's other thread (as yet incomplete, I wanted a break from writing it, lo & behold, I find this instead, oh geeeez… :-/ ). You are often intemperate & aggressive, just as much as those you so vehemently oppose. Uncomfortable? Oh, yes. Do you never stop to consider how uncomfortable you make the 'arguments' (your word) for those who would simply like to discuss, and maybe learn something from others?

You, just as much as those you argue with, make such discussions more flame & heat than light. Unlike some of those you flame, you are certainly capable of better. But you don't do it. Your bias is bloody obvious. The the period between the beginning of the 20th century and the end of WW1 was one of mass slaughter - all related directly to profiteering and Imperial expansion. - rubbish! And I will quite happily (& civilly) debate the matter with you. I doubt I'll change your mind, but it'll be a fun debate, and maybe others, like Raggy, might learn about a period they don't much about.

It's not a question of "setting bounds"; it's knowing that default bounds are there & deciding whether or not it's a good idea to step beyond them. I certainly will step beyond bounds if I feel it's justified. You often leave me with the impression that you've no idea that there are bounds, or that you don't care & think that anything you choose to say, by definition, is 'relevant' however you decide to say it. You know I'm not trying to slate you, Jim, but something to think about, maybe?

Why should Raggy have felt the need to start another thread to persuade you to leave his other one alone? There's another something you really should think about.

I think auto-correct has rather mangled you, sir. ;-) I've spoken to you civilly now & in the past. If you want to construe that as an attack this time, that's up to you, but you're a bleeding idiot if you do.

Ditto to yet another attempt to claim some moral high ground you are not entitled to - I have attempted to call a halt to this. Really? YOU started it in the first place. Having leapt in with both hobnailed boots in the KH thread, your first response (& the first response) here was more whiny passive-aggressive self-justification. "It's not my fault. It's them, it's them, it's them! Why is everyone picking on me?" Because, sir, you are being an arse, that's why.

Look down, Jim. You're not even stood on a muddy tussock. You're in the swamp with the rest of us. I make one comment, which I thought, given our past exchanges, you might consider even if you didn't like it... And it's "continuing", it's an "attack". Well done, Jim. That also says what needs to be said, eh, Jim?

"YOU started it in the first place. "No I did not - have the courtesy to read the thread
Jack Campin maid the first reference to Belgium - not me
I have insulted nobody here, certainly not you - you choose to personally insult me
Have the manners to desist
Jim Carroll

I can't see any actual discussion of King Leopold in this thread, so I'm going to close it. Leopold seemed reasonably related to the "Kaiser" thread, and I see no reason why it can't be discussed there.
Now, quite yer squabbling.
The topic of colonialism and related genocide is certainly interesting.
The squabbling is not.
