Subject: Vega banjos pronunciation From: GUEST,Arkansas Red-Ozark Troubadour Date: 15 Sep 18 - 02:53 PM I play a Vega five string banjo. I've always been puzzled by the name. Some call it Vee-gah, and some call it Vay-gah. I've heard the Vega factory called it Vee-gah, but yet I've heard Vay-gah concerning the brightest star in the constellation Lyra, and the star symbol seemed to be the logo of Vega banjos. I've heard the correct title for the banjo is Vee-gah, that Vay-gah is a car. Need some thoughts on this. Thanks. |

Subject: RE: Vega banjos pronunciation From: Jos Date: 15 Sep 18 - 05:53 PM I thought it as Spanish (as in Las Vegas). However, the star seems more likely. For what it's worth, Wikipedia says you can pronounce it either way. |

Subject: RE: Vega banjos pronunciation From: GUEST,Jerry Date: 15 Sep 18 - 06:54 PM Never heard it pronounced any other way than Vay-ger, nor ever heard Saga pronounced Say-gar. However, any suggestions on Alvarez? |
Subject: RE: Vega banjos pronunciation From: banjoman Date: 16 Sep 18 - 07:28 AM Does it matter, they are the Bees Knees so far as banjos are concerned and I have owned and refurbished several. I have always pronounced it VAYGA but its a matter of personal choice |
