Subject: Louis Hardin, Jr. a/k/a Moondog From: keberoxu Date: 06 Jan 19 - 08:19 PM The Viking of 6th Avenue was better known as "Moondog," although his official real name was Louis Thomas Hardin, Jr. For a number of years, a group of artists and filmmakers have worked in dogged pursuit of their goal: a feature film about Moondog. There already exists a published book titled 'The Viking of Sixth Avenue' publicized as an official biography. (I'm waiting for my second-hand copy to come in the post.) As befits the film's persevering, nonconformist subject, the producers of this film maintain that the film is "in production" even years after bringing the project to the public on Facebook -- my attempt failed to link to the Facebook page -- and Kickstarter. A one-minute trailer already exists and may be viewed online at the synopsis page, which is the first clicky link in this post. |

I believe his estate, and by extension his publications, are administrated from Germany. He died there. |

Subject: RE: in production: film about 'Moondog' From: FreddyHeadey Date: 07 Jun 24 - 12:39 PM In the absence of a film(kickstarter) this 30 minute documentary from BBC radio in 2018 might be of interest. Moondog: Sound of New York Huey Morgan returns to his home city to learn more about Moondog, his life and his music. He discovers how Moondog went on to influence other musicians, including Phillip Glass, and how his work is continuing to be used and adapted to this day. Huey is joined in New York by Moondog biographer Robert Scotto and poet and writer Magie Dominic who remembers meeting him in the 1960s. They take Huey to some of the places popular with Moondog, including Carnegie Hall and his regular pitch on 6th Avenue. Huey hears from the Swedish musician Stefan Lakatos who befriended Moondog when he moved to Europe, from composer John Zorn, saxophonist and composer John Harle and classical pianist and composer Joanna McGregor. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b48wq9 |
