Subject: Anne Neilson RIP From: GUEST,Bob Blair ( Guest) Date: 03 May 19 - 06:17 AM Sad, Sad, Sad, News I'm completely devastated to have to inform you that Anne Neilson has died suddenly. Anne co-founder of the Ballad Workshop, felow member of Stramash and dear friend passed away last night/this morning, More news when I get it.. Her brother found her dead on the floor when he went to her flat after not getting an answer to his phone calls. She was complaining yesterday of intense pain. Anne was involved in numerous folk song activities and we all owe her a great debt. More on that later also I don't now how to cope with this - crying as I write this note. I'm appearing at Girvan FF this weekend and I'll try to sing a song for her there, but how I'll manage I'm not at all sure. Bye bye dear Anne Bob Blair |

Subject: RE: Anne Neilson RIP From: Brian Peters Date: 03 May 19 - 06:58 AM I'm speechless with shock and sadness. Anne was a wonderful singer, a mover and a shaker, and had become a good friend over the last few years. This is a massive blow for Scottish folk song. I'm quite devastated. |
Subject: RE: Anne Neilson RIP From: GUEST,Andymac Date: 03 May 19 - 08:13 AM This is such terrible news, I'm in shock. To have lost both her and her life long friend Gordeanna in such a short space of time is an awful blow for Scottish tradition. But more importantly it's awful news for her many friends. I can't believe it- not Anne. |

Subject: RE: 2019 Obit: Anne Neilson RIP From: Tattie Bogle Date: 03 May 19 - 01:50 PM I am crying too. Such a lovely person, and all credit to her and Gordeanna for setting up the Glasgow Ballad Workshop, and for the many younger singers they tutored, mentored and encouraged. I had seen her a few times in Stramash and other concerts and workshops but got to know her a wee bit better via the GBW. Always sympathetic to anyone's problems, and just a great person to have known. |
Subject: RE: 2019 Obit: Anne Neilson RIP From: John MacKenzie Date: 03 May 19 - 03:48 PM So sudden. A stalwart of the Scottish music scene, and she will be much missed, by many. |

Subject: RE: 2019 Obit: Anne Neilson RIP From: Richard Mellish Date: 12 May 19 - 03:06 PM I've only just seen this thread, having been away from Mudcat for a while for a variety of reasons. I am very sorry that we have lost her. |
Subject: RE: 2019 Obit: Anne Neilson RIP From: Gallus Moll Date: 13 May 19 - 07:35 PM I think Anne posted on mudcat as EKanne? Her funeral is on Thursday 23rd May at 14.00 at the Linn Crematorium, Glasgow. There will be an EGM of The Glasgow Ballad Workshop on Sunday 26th May at 13.00 in Avant Garde, King Street Glasgow. So sad to have lost Ronnie Clark only a couple of years ago, then Gordeanna McCulloch in March and so soon after - Anne Neilson. Miss them all terribly. |
Subject: RE: 2019 Obit: Anne Neilson RIP From: andymac Date: 14 May 19 - 07:52 AM I'm not surprised you miss them, we all do. They were so supportive of aspiring singers which is why I hope the Ballad Workshop feels able to continue. I get there very rarely as I no longer live in Glasgow but I know how important it is. Andy |
Subject: RE: 2019 Obit: Anne Neilson RIP From: Tattie Bogle Date: 14 May 19 - 10:56 AM Anne reverted to using her own name on here for posting: she did formerly post as EKanne. |

Subject: RE: 2019 Obit: Anne Neilson RIP From: Brian Peters Date: 17 May 19 - 12:02 PM As Gallus Moll pointed out, the Glasgow Ballad workshop has now lost three of its leading lights. I hope it can carry on - a really valuable initiative. And I so agree with Kieran Argo's words: 'She was kindness personified and so generous with her friendship, time, support and knowledge.' I'll be at the funeral so please say hello, pseudonymous Mudcatters above. |

Subject: RE: 2019 Obit: Anne Neilson RIP From: GUEST,Bob Blair Date: 20 May 19 - 11:27 AM To Gallup’s Moll Alison. You should have given some thought before you posted the funeral link. We were in the process of trying to decide whether the link should be posted outside of the Ballad Workshop members. Without thinking you have circumvented that decision.. It could well be that because you have extended the link to a audience wider than Ballad Club members, that it will cause a system crash meaning that no-one or hardly anybody will get access. I’m not a member of Mudcat so I can’t contact admin easily, so I think you should contact Joe Offer or some other admin and ask them to delete your post containing the streaming link Bob Blair I deleted the post with the address. -Mod |

Subject: RE: 2019 Obit: Anne Neilson RIP From: GUEST,Ian Taylor Date: 22 May 19 - 08:56 AM So sad to hear the news about Anne. As well as seeing her compere and hearing her sing at the Glasgow Ballad Workshop, I had the privilege of being in her song class at Glasgow Fiddle Workshop. Her warmth, humanity and passion for music never failed to shine. She will be much missed. |
