Subject: Name of Fiddle Tune?
From: GUEST,Duncan McNab

I posted a video on YouTube of Marie Fielding playing at The Falkland Traditional Music Festival. She introduces the tune as "Scott Skinner's Compliments to Marshall" or "Marshall's Compliment to Skinner".
I've been asked if I can identify the proper name for the first tune in her set. I'm not a fiddler so cannot answer the request.
Can any Mudcat fiddlers out there help me out with the correct title?
The link to the video is:

Skinner's Compliments to Marshall fiddle tune or Marshall 's Compliments to Skinner fiddle tune?? I guess you could figure out the proper title by finding out the chronology of these names...which one lived fires and would be likely to compliment the other?

James Scott Skinner (1843-1927)

I HAVE FOUND REFERENCE TO A TUNE CALLED : Scott Skinner's Compliments to Dr. MacDonald

I ALSO HAVE SEEN A STRATHSPEY CALLED Marshall's Compliments to Neil Gow

GOOD LUCK I HOPE YOU GET THE CORRECT TITLE FOR THIS!

Marshall died when Skinner was 2. One of Open Mike's suggestions should be it.

I wonder if she is muddling up Skinner with Gow too. But have looked up scores for both of the tunes above suggested by open mike, and it's neither of those, sorry!
There is another tune: Niel Gow's Compliments (returned) to Mr Marshall, but can't find a score or YouTube for that.
As Jack says, it couldn't possibly be Marshall's Compliments to Skinner because of the chronology.

It does seem to be Niel Gow's Compliment's Returned to Mr Marshall. Score is here (though in D not A) NGCRM. I don't know how Tattie Bogle didn't find it - it was the 1st result returned by google.
