Subject: RE: Millennium Time Zones from Mudcat Time From: katlaughing Date: 31 Dec 99 - 12:12 PM And as I watch PBS, I wonder why they had to muck up trad New Zealand songs by making them operatic! Kiri Te Kanawa has a fantastically beautiful voice, but I would've preferred hearing the songs sung traditionally! Bah humbug! |
Subject: RE: Millennium Time Zones from Mudcat Time From: Ana Date: 31 Dec 99 - 07:28 PM Not sure about Kiribati's time - NZ's certainly been maintaining it's first. Maybe daylight saving's not been taken into account. Hey Kat, re Trad songs from NZ - if it's Maori songs you're referring to, the melodic "popular" ones were developed after the arrival of European. True traditional Maori waiata are chants - much like the Haka (a challenge issued by men, and commonly seen at sports) or the Karanga (a sole female voice of welcome/greeting). So it is OK for an operatic presentation. Wishing you all well - Ana |
Subject: RE: Millennium Time Zones from Mudcat Time From: Richard Bridge Date: 31 Dec 99 - 08:00 PM What is EST? How does it descend from the grandfather GMT? How did George ever let go??? |
Subject: RE: Millennium Time Zones from Mudcat Time From: MudGuard Date: 01 Jan 00 - 05:36 AM EST is East Standard Time. (East meaning the east coast of the USA) It is derived from GMT in the following way: Grandfather: GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) Father: UTC (Universal Time Coordinated, which is nothing else but a new name for GMT). EST is 5 hours (if I did not get my calculations wrong) behind UTC
