Just reading the biography of George.

Apparently George Snr got his first big break courtesy of Belle Elmore (Dr Crippen's wife)/. She got him his first London agent.

Experts weren't really expecting George's act to work with southern audiences, but apparently, it did really well. Starting the Formby fortune.
