Clare FM just announced the news of John Lyons' death.

A week or two ago news started floating about he was gravely ill in hospital. Only last Wednesday, at a concert that was originally scheduled to feature John and his family, his daughter Aisling played a piece of music she had composed for her dad, in hope of a speedy recovery. Sadly it was not to be. May he rest well.

Yes - very sad to lose both John and Tim (and Tim’s wife Anna) in such a short time.

Regards

I met the family a couple of years ago. Very sad to hear this news.

Another fine musician who has been lost to us. My condolences to his friends and family and all who knew him. The links that Peter Laban posted don't give half of the full story. Perhaps somebody can fill in the gaps for us?

RIP

Peter

He was a lovely man! I first met him in Boyle Co. Roscommon in 1966. A nice two row C#/D accordion player and an absolutely cracking singer. I always associate 'After Aughrim' and 'The May Morning Dew' with him, although he was much more of a singer than that. Released several recordings, the most recent being with his brother Tim on John Howson's Veteran label. He'll be sadly missed!

Some recordings of his singing on the Clare Library website, including "After Aughrim" as referred to by Liberty Boy. A fine voice.
