Mudcatters may be interested to know about a new book ' Old Songs, New Discoveries', comprising selected papers from the 2018 Folk Song Conference at Cecil Sharp House and edited by Steve Roud and David Atkinson.

It's the first publication from new publishing cooperative The Ballad Partners, whose primary aim is to publish and so put into the public domain papers given at conferences on folk music, dance and song.

Contents include, among others, chapters on Marjorie Kennedy-Fraser (by Per Ahlander), Tony Wales (Sean Goddard) AL Lloyd (George Hoyle), the poetry and music of Peterloo (Alison Morgan) and ‘staged authenticity’ in performances of folk songs (yours truly!).

At 12 pounds plus postage, it's certainly value for money, and can be bought online from EFDSS's Folk Shop:

Looks like an excellent volume. Do you know if there are plans for a North American distributor?

I don’t think there are any plans for that as yet: it’s a very small operation, with a small print run - so no plans for distributors UK or US other than EFDSS folk shop and website, which should be up and running soon

Thanks, Sue—guess I'll bite the bullet and swallow the shipping costs!

Is there a bookshop in Edinburgh or Belfast that's likely to carry this book and Southern Songster? I'll be in those cities next month.

I have had my copy for around three weeks now and I have to agree that the chapters that I have perused so far are very interesting and immensely readable. The book came my way as I was among the group of friends interviewed by Paul Mansfield for his paper "Understanding the Repertoire Choices of Folk Club Singers" and Paul does a good job with his research and conclusions on this subject. Some comments emanating from his paper have just been uploaded onto the Facebook page of Tigerfolk - formerly Traditions at the Tiger.
