Subject: NOT Ken Burns Country Music From: Thomas Stern Date: 21 Sep 19 - 07:32 PM There are numerous documentary films which are available other than the current Ken Burns Country Music series. Below are two I think should be of interest. Hope list members will suggest others, and comment about them. Best wishes, Thomas. 1. BIG FAMILY - The Story of Bluegrass currently (Sept 2019) on PBS Big Family 2. The WOMEN OF COUNTRY CBS 1993 - currently available on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vP1LJ5XwWVw |
Subject: RE: NOT Ken Burns Country Music From: Thomas Stern Date: 21 Sep 19 - 07:37 PM Blue clicky for Women of Country The Women of Country I've mentioned this program a number of times, with little response - I think it is superb, featuring women performers from the 30's through the 1990's. It was available on 2 VHS tapes for a shsrt while, then on a European DVD which disappeared in the blink of the eye. It has puzzled me that no purveyor of DVD programs has thought to make it available. Guess that is solved by youtube. Would be very interested to hear others reaction to this program. Enjoy, Thomas. |
Subject: RE: NOT Ken Burns Country Music From: Ebbie Date: 23 Sep 19 - 02:03 AM I've seen Women of Country twice- an excellent show, hosted by Mary Chapin Carpenter. At the end when all those women stream down from the back is an amazing moment. That said, I am also enjoying the current Ken Burns Country series. I am old enough that I know almost all of the songs, AND the performers. Even at that, there is the occasional revelation of an individual's life and career that I had either never known or had forgotten. |
