A friend of mine has a Yamaha Dreadnought guitar with a built in push-button effects. It is the only one of it's kind that I've seen in many years involved in Music Sessions, Sing-alongs, Festivals and Gigs. Were such instruments simply unpopular ? the effect does work quite well un amplified, I've not heard one through any kind of amplification.

There was a previous thread mentioning these...
and I remember looking up yutube demo videos/reviews..
But that's all I can recall...

Maybe Big Al was a poster on it...???

I can imagine why they'd be unpopular: people don't tend to use FX on acoustic guitars and if they do they can just buy an FX pedal.

I don't see how they can be 'unamplified'? They must by default have some kind of built-in amplification otherwise the effect wouldn't be audible.

It's some kind of built in speaker system
so the acoustic tone is enhanced with chorus/reverb [If I remember...??]
and a possible volume boost...

No amp or external speaker required...

I'm thinking I might have linked to a demo/review from Anderton's youtube channel...

Thank you punkfolkrocker, that describes the thing I enquired about exactly. I've never seen one before.

the transacoustic yamaha range. they are very current. And people do actually like them in folk clubs - well they do in the places I've been.

I've got one of the cheap ones. Its okay. Plays allright.

This Phil Walker demo in the transacoustic - a bit boomy but you get the idea.
Try and catch Phils History of the Guitar stage show. He's very good - at a theatre near you!
