This compilation series, released in 4 volumes, was originally an RTÉ TV series that started airing in 1994. The first long-form compilation volume was released on DVD in 2005; with volumes 2, 3 and 4 being released in 2007, 2010 and 2012, respectively.

There's also the TG4 Irish language ones 'Siar an Bothar' which would give you even more choice (they do all have English sub-titles)! Unfortunately RTE pulled the plug on making any new ones in 2004 but there's plenty to be getting on with all the old ones! Happy viewing - quality TV!

In fairness, they were running out of archive material a bit.

BBC Northern Ireland ran a similar archive series as well, presented and curated by Paul Brady. I forget what the name was.

I don't know, I can't remember. But I don't think it was (there was another series on folk music by John Peel of that name). I do have some recollection of either RTE or TG4 airing a few episodes of it in the past few years.

The entry for McAuley onm wiki says:

'His musical ability led him to produce and direct a ground breaking Irish music programme titled As I Roved Out, a programme responsible for giving many musicians their first TV appearance; artists now well known such as Mary Black, Paul Brady, Christy Moore and others. '

Which is not the same as an archive based programme presented and curated by Paul Brady, that I mentioned. Seamus Ennis worked on an 'As I roved out show' until 1958 as well but that's I believe yet another one.

But it doesn't matter, all I said there was an archive based programme presented by Paul Brady and it ran on BBC Northern Ireland, I saw some episodes of it on either RTE or TG4 perhaps tow or three years ago, I don't know the name of it.
