I've searched the records of Mudcat and while the song is mentioned quite often, the lyric is not given anywhere. I have also searched with Google and found the part-lyric chorus that was sung and recorded by many artistes, commencing with
"Moonlight and roses bring wonderful memories of you...etc".
However, nowhere can I find the Verse lyric, as was recorded by John MacCormack in 1925. I used to hear an aunt and uncle who would sing it as a duet for family gatherings and I would love to have that FULL lyric of Verses and chorus if anybody can help ? The chords to the melody would be much appreciated also.

PS From further reading, the piece originally had no lyrics. Most we do have were from the US. However, MacCormack's take on it is clear enough to be transposed I suppose. Good luck to you.

great song.

just do the middle bit . my Grandma used to sing it.   I used to introduce it as a Jim Reeves song, cos he did an album with that title.

I think all that stuff is sort of folk.

          In the sixties we ran a folk club on a Sunday night in South Shields, but there was another pub in the town, where locals gathered round a piano- where among Tyneside songs and dancing dolls, one man played the musical saw, featuring that very tune. Great stuff & you can't tell me it wasn't FOLK.

Thanks to all of you again. Oh, Big Al, surely the verse is so beautifully (musically) aligned to the chorus it cannot be excluded ? Thanks for the link to MacCormack too, Starship and Norval.
It 's a recording that I had as a youngster, brings back many very old memories when I hear it now.

beachcomber - use this copy then Moonlight And Roses. It also has ukulele diagrams (though for a more common tuning m3 lower than the other), but has chord names with them (Click the Download link and select All(pdf) to download it).

Thank you Mike, unfortunately, the ukelele chords are not named in the text of Moonlight & Roses given in that link. The previous song "When it's springtime in the Rockies" does have them named, but not the others. Not to worry, I'll try out some of my own. It's just that I thought it would be nice to get the composer's version.
