Subject: Judith Durham Story, 'Colours of My Life
From: GUEST,Lin
Date: 14 Apr 20 - 01:07 AM

I am looking to buy the book called, "The Judith Durham Story:
Colours of My Life" from someone in U.S.A. that can sell
this book to me. I am in California.

I did see this book listed on ABE book site from someone
selling it for $112.85 and another copy for $220.00 who is in
U.S.A. Someone else on Amazon selling it for $79.82.
However, I do not have Paypal and don't want to use my
credit card on-line.

(I am a senior citizen on a very, very fixed income, don't even
own a car or a Smart phone and rent a room in someone's house
as I cannot afford what apts. rent for nowadays.
Gosh, even a senior bldg. near
me rents 1 bedroom apts.for $1,150.00 a month.)

I know the book is out-of-print but just cannot afford those
prices. I am a long time Juduth Durham fan though and just
hoping someone seeing this could part with this book and
sell to me for $20.00. I know that is probably a long shot
to find this book at that price but just hoping someone would
be willing to sell it to me as a kind gesture.

I could send a check or money order or cashiers check from
my bank, but due to not wanting to take buses now to the bank I
would have to wait. Seniors are not supposed to be traveling
around, going out and taking buses right now unless to go to a doctor or for food.
I don't have anyone at all to drive me around so have to walk
or take buses but go out just to buy me some food at grocery
store and don't go anywhere else.

The easiest way for me would be to send a check but of course
I know it would have to clear first and that would be fine.

Thank you,
Lin

Thanks, Mr. Red,

I do actually listen to Judith Durham on Youtube every day.
Just enjoy her singing and lovely personality.

Oh, but hoping I can find someone willing to sell me the book at the price I can afford. It would mean so much to me.

Thank you,
Lin

Hi Lin

I had a look on the net. Ebay has this book for £29.99 about $36 plus postage.

Hi Raggytash,

Thank you for your message but want to try and find someone selling it
in U.S.A. and not overseas. It gets too expensive (for me) to pay for overseas postage. Plus, someone selling in U.S.A. or from Mudcat might be willing to accept a check, money order or cashier's check drawn on an American bank.

Overseas you cannot send them a check, money order or cashiers check and on Ebay you have to use Paypal which I don't have.
So hoping someone in U.S.A. will have this book to sell but not Ebay as they only take Paypal.

Perhaps some book shop in U.S.A. can sell it to me or an individual or (friend of Judith Durham, just kidding.....) If that offer happened, I would think I've won the Lotto. ??

Thank you,
Lin

Hi Lin

There is a company called Tranferwise on line that allows transfer of one currency (your bank account) into another currency (the receivers bank account). I use them and their are reputable and their exchange rates tend to be far better than banks or exchange bureaus.

It will be a bit of a pain to got through all the motions but if it will save you 80 or 90 Dollars it may be worth it to you.

You can buy it here for just under $11. Colours of My Life

Can't be the hardest problem in life to get a book from Australia to the US at cost and there is a contact for the seller on the site. You can send a book from UK to Australia for about £5 if you are not in a rush

Australia is about the same price - Australian post

Don't you have a public library system in the US? There was a very good library I visited when I was in Boston. In the UK inter-library loans are very good

Or why not contact Judith Durham through her Website, http://www.judithdurham.com/get-in-touch or facebook page

Amazon in the US has a paperback copy for $23.54

https://www.amazon.com/Judith-Durham-Story-Colours-Life/dp/1852270381

I never use ABE Books as my initial search, it is always more expensive. Try www.bookfinder.com and you'll usually get several sets of results, because sometimes the book is listed in slightly different ways. You can also combine all of the results for one view, like this and see lowest to highest.

Hi Nick,

ALL the library's in my city and surrounding cities including colleges are closed now due to the Corona Virus.
Could be many, many months (in my area) until they reopen.

I think on Amazon, don't you have to use Paypal? I don't have that.
Or have to use a credit card?

Will they accept a personal check, money order or Cashier's check from an American bank acct?

Thank you,
Lin

There's been several editions. The last one that I'm aware if came out in 2003. I have a sneaking suspicion that there will be a new edition at some point. She's been through a lot, to understate matters, in recent years, health wise and losing her singing voice, but she keeps a fairly positive outlook on her life. So I would imagine that several new chapters could be added.

Meanwhile the advice given by 'nick'. I obviously can't make promises on her behalf, but I am positive that she will be sympathetic to your situation.

With E-Bay (PayPal or sometimes Credit card or it depends on the seller can be other but is not recommended) and Amazon (Credit Card) - someone can have it sent as a gift. If you know anyone who has an account with either, pay them to source the book.

Here's one from ALIBRIS (click). I've been buying books from them with my credit card for 25 years, and I've never had a problem. Hint: get a separate card for online buying. Then you can easily cancel it if there's ever a problem. But using a credit card online could make life so much easier for you.

Hi Nick,

I clicked on the link you sent me (tried it twice) for Judith Durham, and got the message
Server Error 404, File Director Not Found (or something like that) so could not send a message.

Thank you,
Lin

Hi Joe,

When you indicated to get a seperate credit card, do you mean from the bank where you already have a credit card and with this (2nd credit card)
is it in anyway linked to your main checking acct?

Thank you,
Lin

Hi, Lin -
Let's try Nick's link again: http://www.judithdurham.com/get-in-touch.

It's usually not too hard to get two no-fee credit cards from one bank, or one from one band and one from another. I have one credit card I pay $100 a year for that gives me airline miles and other benefits, and that's the one I use for almost all my purchases. I have another free card from the same bank that I used to use for on-the-job travel so I could keep my business expenses separate. Since I retired, I use that one as a backup for travel in case I lose my main credit or in case it gets compromised and cancelled.

I also use that extra card for "iffy" purchases (like buying gas at seedy gas stations), because it doesn't mess up my other finances if I have to cancel it.

But I've bought used books through Alibris and ABE Books and Amazon for 25 years, and have never had a problem with any of them. No problem with eBay, either. One time, I bought a $300 set of books through I think it was Alibris. The books never arrived, and Alibris refunded my entire purchase amount without any hassle at all. I've had eBay and Amazon fix things for me with their sellers, too - never with any hassle at all. So, it's a matter of using trusted merchants, and using care when buying from an unknown merchant.

But if you're a senior, you should make use of these things to make purchasing things easier. Since the days when I traveled constantly on the job, I have had all my bills on automatic payment, so I rarely have to write a check.

All the best to you.

-Joe Offer-
