Great sentiment, lyrics, tune and harmonies - All done rmeotely! We'll raise a glass, fear to dispel. And one for those who made us well. We'll raise one more for those that fell. When they reopen all the bars. Enjoy :-) |

Subject: RE: Song: When they reopen all the bars From: Jim Carroll Date: 25 Apr 20 - 05:57 AM Not very good at adding to other people's songs Dave, but this is the last ballad sheet to be sold around the haose-fairs in Clare - very appropriate, I thought Jim THE BAR WITH NO STOUT Now ware heard quite a lot of the Pub with no Beer, And some people claim it's the hit of the year, But during the war I was rambling about, And I called for a Pint in a Bar with no Stout. The bar owner sat on a chair by the fire, I’ d swear if you touched him he’d scrape like a brier, When I said “Fill a Pint” then his rag he got out, Saying “Your order is tall in the Bar with no Stout". A customer came in a donkey and car, He tied up his ass and took in a big jar, But the ass jumped and reared, from the door he pulled out, Its no place for an ass near a Bar with no Stout The Garda on duty the first time in years, Came back from his beat all shaken with fears, The Sergeant said Pat, why you look knocked about, He stammered and told him the Bar's got no Stout. The Postman returned from his rounds on the street, And when he had entered his time on the sheet, The Postmaster seeing no froth round his mouth, Guessed on the spot that the Bar had no Stout. Now ’tis lonesome to part with the one you love dear, Or to sit on a stool in a Pub with no Beer But there’s nothing more lonesome without any doubt, Than to call for a Pint in a Bar with no Stout., Copyright by Cuthbertson, Printer, Listowel. |
Subject: RE: Song: When they reopen all the bars From: Dave the Gnome Date: 25 Apr 20 - 08:38 AM I spent a lovely couple of weeks just outside Listowel some years back. In Finuge, birth place of Sean McCarthy. I met his widow. |
Subject: RE: Song: When they reopen all the bars From: Jim Carroll Date: 25 Apr 20 - 10:48 AM Lovely part of the world Dave - also the home of Irish playwright John B Keane who had a bar there My fondest memory of Listowel was on our second visit to Ireland We'd gone to the Fleadh (before we grew out of them) which had been cancelled in sympathy with the Civil Rights marches in The North All the musicians locked themselves in the Bars and played away - we met a storyteller who told us stories in the street and then took us into a 'forbidden' session Jim |
Subject: RE: Song: When they reopen all the bars From: GUEST,diplocase Date: 28 Apr 20 - 01:35 AM it really is a nice song for the covid era. Anybody know who wrote it? YT gives only the names of the singers... |
Subject: RE: Song: When they reopen all the bars From: GUEST,Paul Schurr Date: 07 Jul 20 - 09:29 AM This bit from the web gives credit to Penka Jane Culevski: This is my sister singing a song she composed accompanied by fellow musicians "When They Reopen all the Bars". Although we come from a long line of spell casters, rule breakers and bearded babas, I never felt part of a community until I found this reddit. As a fierce science witch I implore everyone to stay at home, however I recognize how this impacts the employment of our fellow musicians and artists more than most. My favorite lyric in her song is "We'll raise a glass, fear to dispel", "And one for those who made us well", "We'll raise one more for those that fell", "When they reopen all the bars". To anyone struggling during this quarantine I hope you have someone who can buy you a beer when this is all over. In the interim I am raising my glass of bitter brew (homemade absinthe) to this community who made me well, wishing you safety, wellness and most of all music. |
Subject: RE: Song: When they reopen all the bars From: leeneia Date: 07 Jul 20 - 07:30 PM Uh, Paul. Is that anything like the absinthe that destroyed Vincent Van Gogh? Hope not. ==== Dave, thanks for the link. It's beautiful music. |
Subject: RE: Song: When they reopen all the bars From: leeneia Date: 08 Jul 20 - 11:57 AM We went to a bar last night for a burger and a beer. What a let-down! Four televisions showed boxing, my least favorite sport, so I had to keep averting my eyes. Loud mediocre music came from the PA. There was one number so penetrating that I had to cover my ears till it ended. We were lingering to let paint smell die down in the house. The burger was good, and I had a Bud because I like the Clydesdales. Why go, if you don't like it? you ask. I'm sick of Thai and Mediterranean. |
Subject: RE: Song: When they reopen all the bars From: Joe Offer Date: 14 Oct 20 - 10:54 PM But did we ever get the lyrics to this song? Here's a YouTube video that may be the right song: Casey Casebeer sang it tonight. -Joe- Here are the lyrics Casey posted: WHEN THEY REOPEN ALL THE BARS - COVID SONG (in my iTunes) w/m by Penka Jane ?ulevski of Seattle Lyrics: I’ll drink my whiskey neat again Sing in chorus with my friends Wish well to Johnny, our dear bartend When they reopen all the bars —chorus— When they reopen ^ all the bars (now they’ve…) When they reopen all the bars We’ll all shake hands and all link arms When they reopen all the bars I’ll give a hug to sweet Colleen And hear her whistle bright and keen When all of us may reconvene When they reopen all the bars —chorus— We’ll sit together knee to knee Sharing tunes, and converse free Passing hours cheerfully When they reopen all the bars —chorus— We’ll gayly greet old Jackie Tar We’ll hunt the bucks of Oranmore (The Bucks of Oranmore: Irish reel tune) Banish misfortune, when frost’s all o’er (Banish Misfortune: Irish jig tune) When they reopen all the bars —chorus— We’ll raise a glass, fear to dispel And one for those who made us well We’ll raise one more for those that fell When they reopen all the bars —chorus— We’ll gather then, long overdue All our friendships to renew I’ll kiss my love there in full view When they reopen all the bars —chorus—x2

Subject: RE: Song: When they reopen all the bars From: FreddyHeadey Date: 15 Oct 20 - 07:22 PM Not much on the internet about Penka Jane Culevski Penka Jane began playing fiddle as a child and has been singing since she first heard the radio. After discovering a love of traditional Irish music, Penka Jane found Old-time, Bluegrass, and Quebecois along the way. She began songwriting in earnest in 2018 and has been cultivating this new avenue of musical expression. In addition to Dear Crow[with Brian Lindsay], she performs in the Seattle and Olympia areas with the Choice Wives, and The Try-Works. https://brianlindsaymusic.com/dear-crow/ https://www.facebook.com/penka.jane |
