Subject: RIP Jonathan Kelly

I was so sorry to hear of the death on Saturday of Jonathan Kelly, an Irish singer/songwriter who I used to see in London Clubs in the early seventies. This was my favourite of his songs    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MkKxypC5fU

Wikipedia says Kelly stopped performing in 1976. However, between 2004 and 2007, he returned to performing a few solo acoustic concerts at small venues.

May he rest in peace.

Thanks for drawing our attention to the YouTube clip of Jonathan. I was sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to his friends and family and all those who know and love him. I have added his name to the "In Memoriam" thread.

Peter

I saw Jonathan in a club sometime around 1972, and sang his praises in the office the next day, only to find that I was working next to his brother George........

Very sad news.

He wrote some beautiful songs. I understand that he wrote "Rainy Town" about Dublin, but, in the same way that many people associate MacColl's Salford ballad "Dirty Old Town" with Dublin, Kelly's song reminds me of the twin cities of Salford and Manchester, where I come from.

His gig in the Lesser Free Trade Hall around 1973 was really special.

I sang "I used to know you" at my local folk club about a month before we were locked down. Great song I hadn't sung for maybe 40 years before that.
