Subject: Lyr Req: 18 Brits From: GUEST Date: 11 May 20 - 12:03 PM Does anybody have the lyrics or a video/audio file of the Damien Quinn (I think) song "18 brits". It keeps getting deleted off the internet. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 18 Brits From: Joe Offer Date: 11 May 20 - 12:26 PM You know, I don't should allow an anonymous request for a song like that. Sounds too much like trouble. Here in the US, Google brings it right up. I'll leave this thread open for now, but I'll close it if there's any trouble. It's not really a folk song. Sounds like "The Rooster Song" (one day a chicken came into our yard). -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 18 Brits From: cnd Date: 17 May 20 - 12:00 AM IF you need the song for research or historical purposes, I have the lyrics. I have some conflictions about sharing it, because I can understand why the lyrics are important for a historical point of view, but in general, I think there's a very good reason the song's been nearly scrubbed from the internet. It's not only extremely tasteless, it's not clever, it's not well-written, and it's not particularly well-sung either. I will NOT share it to random guests, and I will not be sharing it in the immediate future. I'll use my discretion to decide if it is acceptable to share with someone. I don't want to be responsible for the resurfacing of any IRA rebel song. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 18 Brits From: GUEST,Observer Date: 17 May 20 - 07:23 AM That it keeps getting deleted from the internet is not at all surprising. The caveats listed by cnd regarding reluctance to "share" this "song" are reason enough for closing this attempt at shit stirring down. Cannot see the "historical importance" in it apart from showing those who sing it in a very poor light. As cnd states it is: - extremely tasteless; - not clever; - not well written; - not well sung. Talking of Historical interest in the Republic of Ireland the "Nineteenth Amendment of the Constitution Act 1998" which passed into Law in the Republic on 3rd June 1998 changed Articles 2 and 3 of the Constitution from an irredentist claim on the whole island of Ireland to an aspiration towards creating a united Ireland by peaceful means, "with the consent of a majority of the people, democratically expressed, in both jurisdictions in the island". This came into effect as the result of a referendum in the Republic in which 94.39% of those who turned out to vote voted for the change, i.e. for the creation of a united Ireland by peaceful means - no place for the gun, bomb, or bullet in Irish politics. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 18 Brits From: GUEST,Starship Date: 17 May 20 - 09:04 AM I agree with what has been said so far in response to the OP. The song's only saving grace is that it ends after a painful one minute and twenty seconds. Add that to the forty seconds it took to locate and it's two minutes of life I'll not get back. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 18 Brits From: cnd Date: 17 May 20 - 10:52 AM Good point, Starship; the full version, just under 3 minutes, is even harder to redeem! In all seriousness, though, there is an importance in preserving these lyrics because in the future if someone wants to study the historical implications of the incident (and the issue of a separate Ireland in general), the song would be of interest to future musicologists. Aside from that, the song has no redeeming qualities. |
