Help please
I hit w wrong button a couple of days ago and hyperlinks appeared on every document on the computer - can't get red of them
I've tried to follow the on-line instruction Cnt-shift - Doesn't work
This happened once before - I must have hit another wrong button and it righted itself
Help would really be appreciated
Jim

If you are prepared to run macros it is relatively easy.
If you PM me I could probably devise one for you.

Let me see, FOR LOOP, search for http - test for https and mailto: delete hyperlink. I don't see any major problems, you might have to run it on each file loaded into Word, but maybe even that can be worked around. Any hyperlinks you intended would have to be re-instated.
Le me know. I enjoy a challenge.

Jim,

If you mouse over each hyperlink individually and right click you'll get a dialog box - about halfway down is the "remove hyperlink" command to click.

I created a page with several hyperlinks and tried selecting all - right click that and the remove hyperlink command doesn't light up, so that won't work. Next, I asked Mr. Google "Microsoft Word accidentally turned all URLs to hot links" and came up with the following Office Support tip:

Remove all hyperlinks at the same time
If you're using Word or Outlook, or Excel 2010 or later, you can remove all hyperlinks in a file by using a keyboard shortcut.

In Word and Outlook:

Press Ctrl+A to select all text.

Press Ctrl+Shift+F9.

I'm using an enterprise version of the newest Microsoft Office, but you can find this in various older computer-installed versions of the software. Here is the page where I found that answer. I don't know if it's as simple as to do that to turn on the hyperlinks to begin with.

A hyperlink is the proper name for a "blue clicky"

Hyper-text markup language = html

It's how the browser knows how to display text, and part of that is the correct configuration of a Uniform Resource Locator = URL, the address of any given page or download or directions for opening browser windows or email windows, etc.

Mudcat has several HTML Practice Threads. I created a hyperlink (blue clickie) to one of them.

Press Ctrl+A to select all text.

Press Ctrl+Shift+F9

That works in Word 2007 - try it in your version.

For the Whatisahyperlink questioners

In Word, if you write or paste the full URL (=web address including http://) and follow it with a space or CR (enter) Word will create the hyperlink. If that annoys you there is a button somewhere, I am told, to stop it doing that. But press Cntrl-Z immediately & it will remove the last auto-generated hyperlink.

Cntrl-Z is the generic Undo keyboard shortcut.

If you do a Cntrl-Z by mistake or you change your mind straight away, do Cntrl-Y and the undo will be undone.

SRS - that is a good example.

However, this thread displays better samples.

Cripes....it REALLY has been two decades?????

Manual line breaks, double "br" rather than paragraphs. "Notepad" the only tool for a true coder. It was a labor of love to post lyrics much less match it to chords. Browser war days of using blink/flash and scroll/marque to keep things happy. Birthday greetings to Max as we, "like cats leaving dead bird gifts on a doorstep", tried to outdo each one's offerings.

Thanks Garg - I looked through my list of traced threads and landed on the first HTML topic and shared it. I've added the other one to my traced threads.

I saw a great trick recently in a troll post, the ability to make columns without tables and such. I think I saved a bookmark somewhere - I was intending to look into it. This has been a helpful reminder!

Thanks to the tsunami of assistance I've had here (even from people I've been a pain in the arse to) I think I'm getting there
I started this this morning - a method of removing automatically applied hyperlinks, which I suspect I've accidentally activated

1 Open word
2 Click logo - top left
3 Click word options
4 Click proofing
5 Click auto correct options
6 Enter Autoformat as you type
7 Click internet and format paths with hyperlinks
8 Click ok

Tried it twice earlier - will try it again now I've had breakfast and woken up (in that order)
If it works - I owe you all a pint - in not, you're all invited to the funeral (I think they allow the burial of suicides in holy Ireland nowadays)
Many thanks all - will let you now how I get on
Jim
