Subject: Zoom Folk Club Reunions From: SPB-Cooperator Date: 04 Jul 20 - 01:15 PM Over the many years of my life a number of folk clubs have closed, usually because of their venues. In my case I can recall at least ten. Since we have been in lockdown existing clubs are running Zoom sessons, but this also presents the opportunity for people who have been involved with club that are long, or not so long gone to come togehter rand share memomories, recollections, or the odd song/tune or two. I suggest that anyone who is able to organise a reunion promote it here, or ditto for anyone who would like to get together wity people from clubs they used to go to but need someone else to organise. At this stage, a rough idea - maybe benefit from fine tuning. |

Subject: RE: Zoom Folk Club Reunions From: Herga Kitty Date: 09 Jul 20 - 06:01 PM This reminds me of the Sidmouth festival year when I ran a folk clubs reunited session in the garden of the Volunteer on the Monday.... the attendees included Pete Luscombe and Pete Watkinson, who were missing the last ever meeting of the club at the Railway in Portsmouth, and MikeofNorthumberland and McGrath of Harlow, who had been jointly responsible for writing "The Student sent down in his prime" while both members of the Oxford University Folk club aka Heritage, and who hadn't seen each other for decades... Subject: RE: Zoom Folk Club Reunions From: Tattie Bogle Date: 10 Jul 20 - 07:11 PM All of the folk clubs that I know of in our area are thankfully still surviving, but Zoom sessions are no doubt helping to keep us alive: for one club we are now "meeting" fortnightly instead of monthly, and getting better "attendances" than we might have had for face-to-face sessions. I have "attended" various clubs much further afield than I could otherwise have contemplated, as have some of our visitors. And no driving, and you can have a wee drink too if you are so minded! |
