I recently heard of the death of mudcatter, Eddie Winship (eddie1).
Although I knew him a little and we were Facebook friends, I don't
feel qualified to write a full obituary so maybe others will add
to this.

Eddie, originally from Scotland, lived in Reading, Berkshire,
England. I knew him mainly as a radio presenter though I have
certainly heard him sing and play the guitar. His funeral was on
the 1st September and being under Covid-19 measures was available
on-line for remote attendance.

Here are a few more details gleaned from his funeral service,
which I have watched. His Facebook friends can find details on his
timeline and watch it if they wish to. It will be available to
watch until 28th September 2020.

- Born 13th November 1940 in Edinburgh.
- In the early 1970s he was involved in Cumbernauld Folk Club
- In 1997, having already had several adventures after retirement
from the Civil Service, Eddie went in 1997 to the USA to be a
"singing cowboy". He joined a touring show called "Tales from the
Trails", visiting state fairs with songs, stories and animals.
- Around 2000 he moved back to the UK, to Reading where his
daughter Karen was living and a temporary stay became a permanent
move
- After a spell working in the care sector Eddie became a
presenter in local radio, specialising in community shows. He only
very recently stopped broadcasting.
- In 2019 he received the Reading Community Champion Award

Thank you, rosma, for this update. I appears that Eddie kept up regular contributions here for many years. And a Singing Cowboy! I wonder if anyone has posted videos of him?

Here is a video of Eddie being interviewed. Here are a couple with him singing:

- I'd rather be in Reading
- I want a Hug - At Reading Gaol (actually at Reading Abbey next door)

Sad news.

Eddie always visisted Edinburgh Folk Club whenever he returned to Scotland. As I recall, he also performed a benefit gig for us back in the mid eighties at a time when the club was struggling.

Condolences to all Eddie's family and friends.
