Subject: RE: Taylor Swift wins... From: Jeri Date: 13 Apr 21 - 12:45 PM There has been something similar in the folk world with Celtic Music recordings, but they owned a lot of artists' music, not just one. Even though Swift has to record her material AGAIN, but she can. (And who, who's seen developments throughout the years, is surprised Kanye West is involved?) |

Subject: RE: Taylor Swift wins... From: Ross Campbell Date: 15 Apr 21 - 06:21 PM I always wondered why artists in this situation couldn't just re-record and re-issue the work (and ideally retain the rights in the new work). Obviously there's fresh costs involved (multiplied if you're not a soloist), but modern recording equipment and techniques have got so much cheaper and widely available that excellent results can be achieved with a bit of ingenuity (and work!) - instance the amazing explosion of wonderful lock-down music in the last year. Distribution and reward for the work is quite another problem. Ross |
