It is with shock and sadness that I have to report the death after a short illness, of Seán Corcoran, singer and musician, collector, lecturer, festival organiser, probably best known for his membership of Cran - mostly with Desi Wilkinson and Ronan Browne. Seán was an enthusiast from his schooldays, an innovator and a catalyst. He had been living in England for a time, and, like the rest of us, publicly inactive during the pandemic. There will be longer tributes but it should be said he was a hero of traditional music and song, and one of our giants.

There are a lot of interesting pieces of information out there about Mr. Corcoran. Linked is just one of them.

Although I did know Sean as a singer and musician, I remember him more as a researcher and educator (he gave talks on Irish music traditions, a few of which I had the privilege of attending).

This article gives a good idea of Seán;s accomplishmentsL

I missed this thread until it was brought to my attention by Felipa and Peter Laban. The links provided give a good picture of Sean and his accomplishments in folklore, music and research. I have added his name to the "In Memoriam" thread and send belated condolences to all who know and love him.

Seán, Mick Moloney and I, the 'Rakish Paddies' ran the '95' Folk Club on Harcourt Street Dublin in the mid-60s. Seán's deep knowledge and love of folk song and all that lay behind it just flowed out of him. It was a privilege to know that man.
