Just letting people know that Ronnie Palmer died on 1st August aged 90yrs. I know that any people on here will be saddened as Ronnie was a well known and well liked character at Folk clubs and festivals in the North of England / Scotland and further afield along with his beloved wife Margaret who died a few years ago. I learned of his death via Facebook. RIP Ronnie.

That's too common a name to turn up the correct Ronnie Palmer in a Google search. Please post a link when an obituary is posted.

Joe this is an ignoramus, no mention of Ronnie - just a ignorant post. I knew Ronnie and his Wife Margarette many years, I met him at Festivals in NE England +, Grvan, Newcastelton + Whitby and other festivals. I just thought I thought that a lot of people on Mudcat would appreciate me letting them know that Ronnie has passed away a few days ago. I cant understand why someone would find a problem with that.

No problem, but with scant information, it's difficult to confirm the details. "I heard so-and-so died" is anecdotal, compared to publishing a web announcement or obituary. Occasionally errors are made. ---mudelf

Actually, I found the correct Ronnie Palmer on my first try, by including "tyneside" in the search - a relevant Web site and news posting (from a couple of months ago) is at Tynefolk (scroll down a bit from the top).

Given the dates involved, it's not surprising that a formal obituary isn't yet online. For the moment, let's acknowledge the news, share memories from those who knew him, and await appropriate details as they're finalized and announced.

Met Ronnie and Margaret many times at Whitby Folk Week. He was a real character and will be much missed.

Ron was going to give Derek one of his impressive cabbage stalk sticks but sadly it was not to be. His Transpennine duet with Sid Calderbank was a highlight of our week in Whitby.

We could also include Ronnies wife Margaret who died a few years ago, they were regulars at many Folk Festivals and friends to many, RIP Margaret and Ronnie - but happily re- united at Folk Festivals in Heaven, with angels and saints on Fiddle, squeeze boxes and bodhrans.

they were a lovely pair- I used to enjoy their lovely Geordie accents when I returned from exile to do local clubs- also he would often bring bags of juicy raspberries from his garden, as raffle prizes or just to give away.....
