Obit: Mudcatter Wilfried Schaum (1943-2021)

Dear fellow Catters,
when I opened the local newspaper this morning, I found an obituarity for Wilfried Schaum from Friedberg,Germany.

Although he was living only half an hours drive away from my mothers place we only met once at the Mudgathering in Kiel. We exchanged a few pm`s when I was down there and some folk concerts happening but unfortunately never had another chance to meet again.

Quite a pity because he was such a nice guy and we both studied at the same university and both belonged to fraternities (not that common any more now).

I met Wilfried 4 times, on the Gatherings in Groningen (NL), Barrow upon Humbers (UK), Niort (F) and Kiel (D).

That is sad news. I also met Wilfried at Mudcat Eurogatherings in Barrow, Niort and Kiel. A real nice guy with whom I shared a common bond of being a Scout Leader.

Thank you for posting. I remember reading Wilfried's well written posts and appreciating his point of view and knowledge of the German side of things.

I was under the impression that I'd interacted with him in some threads but have not verified that.

May his memory live on in those he loved and those who were informed and enlightened by him.

Yes, we're getting to that age - more funerals than parties!
I met Wilfried at several Mudgatherings. I remember him as a somewhat quirky(?) character, but with an old-world politeness, and very kind and knowledgeable. May he rest in peace!

I'm glad you refreshed this thread Susanne- I hadn't seen it first time. Sad to hear the news, another of the EuroMudgather group lost to us.

No, I didn't see this thread the first time, either. I'm very sad to hear this. I too met Wilfried at the Barrow on Humber Eurogather. He was indeed quirky but a lovely guy, and fun to talk to.
