"Séamus had a life-long passion for the Irish language, poetry, traditional music, song and dance. Ever encouraging to young people, Séamus will be fondly remembered for his musical and collecting activities. Being a native of Cooraclare, West Clare, an area steeped in tradition, he was a youthful secretary of the Clare County Board of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCÉ) with Seán Reid, Mrs. Crotty, Willie Clancy, Peadar O’Loughlin and many others.

Séamus was appointed the first Timire Ceoil of CCÉ in 1969, he played a major role in the founding of, and development of, many CCÉ activities, such as An Fleadh Nua, Scoil Éigse, Comhaltas Archives, tours, publications, and recordings.

Séamus also played a role in the emergence of Na Píobairí Uilleann and Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy. In 2017, a special tribute presentation was made to Séamus in the Community Hall, Miltown Malbay, which was packed to capacity with his family, friends and well-wishers. He took great pride in the fact that his children and grand-children are excellent sean-nós singers and musicians. Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam uasal.[eternal peace/rest to his noble soul]
