Subject: Lyr Add: Tha Na H-uain Air An Tulaich From: RunrigFan Date: 14 Apr 22 - 07:37 PM No name Tha na h-uain air an tulaich a' mire san fhraoich Far 'eil caorann a' fàs agus blàths air gach flùr Far 'eil caorann a' fàs agus blàths air gach flùr 'S an loingeas a' seòladh nan cuantan. Bean na bainnse 's a cuideachd dhan eaglais a' falbh Ise marcachd air thoiseach 's a cruth mar a dealbh Agus mise ga leantainn gu trom airtnealach balbh Is mo ghràdh dol a phòsadh fear eile. Aig an altair na seasamh 's a fear-pòsta ri taobh Cur an fhàinne mu meòir 's a' toirt bòidean a' ghaoil Thuirt an gill' air a shocair, "Mo ghràdh dhut chan aom Ged a tha thu nis pòst' aig fear eile". Aig doras na h-eaglais a' coimhead an triall B' e m' ùrnaigh 's mo ghuidhe gun glèidhinn mo chiall Mo ghràdh dhut chan àicheadh an gaol a bh' ann riamh Ged a tha thu nis pòst' aig fear eile. O cladhaich an uaigh far am faigh mise tàmh 'S cur na flùran oirr' thairis 's bheir an t-Earrach orr' fas Agus sìn mi fon ghlasaich far an laigh mi gu bràth Cha chur nì ach am bàs i às m' aire. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: tha na h-uain air an tulaich From: RunrigFan Date: 14 Apr 22 - 07:38 PM The lambs on the mound are frolicking in the heather Where rowan grows and every flower is warm Where rowan is growing and every flower is warm And the ships are sailing the oceans. The bride and her companions go to church She rides ahead in the form she's pictured And I follow her with a dumb art And my love is going to marry someone else. At the altar standing with her husband beside The ringing the ring and taking the oaths of love The lad said calmly, "My love for you will not fade Though you are now married to another man" . At the church door watching the journey It was my prayer and supplication that I would keep my senses My love for you will never deny the love that was ever Even though you are now married to another man. O dig the grave where I can rest And put the flowers over it and Spring will make it grow And I will lie under the grass where I lie forever Nothing but death will forget me. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: tha na h-uain air an tulaich From: RunrigFan Date: 14 Apr 22 - 07:47 PM The lambs on the hillside Sport in the heather Where the berries grow And blossoms are on every flower Where the berries grow And blossoms are on every flower And the ships Are sailing in the ocean The bride and her party Going to the church She riding ahead As pretty as a picture And a lad following her Heavy-hearted and dumb For his love Is going to marry another Standing at the altar With her groom by her side Putting the ring on her finger And making vows of love The lad said quietly "My love for you will never weaken Even though you are Now married to another" "Dig a grave," said the lad "Where I can get some peace Plant flowers around it And spring will make them grow And lay me under the earth Where I will lie forever Nothing but death Will banish her from my mind" The lambs on the hillside Sport in the heather Where the berries grow And blossoms are on every flower Where the berries grow And blossoms are on every flower And the ships Are sailing in the ocean The lambs on the hillside Sport in the heather Where the berries grow And blossoms are on every flower The lad said quietly "My love for you will never weaken Even though you are Now married to another" |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Tha na h-Uain air an Tulaich From: Felipa Date: 16 Apr 22 - 05:15 AM The Gaelic language song is a translation of "The Lambs in the Green Hills" https://mudcat.org/@displaysong.cfm?SongID=3491 and is sung to the same tune as that usually used for "The Lambs in the Green Hills". I think of The Lambs in the Green Hills as an Irish song*. The best known Scottish version of this old song is "I Aince Loved a Lass" (or I Once Loved a Lass). *The "Mainly Norfolk" website concurs; The Lambs in the Green Hills was in the repetoire of source singer Sarah Makem of County Armagh as well as having been published in Colm Ó Lochlainn's Irish Street Ballads. There is an amusing misprint of Séamus Ennis' surname, but I don't find "Seamus Ennui" boring! https://mainlynorfolk.info/copperfamily/songs/thefalsebride.html The translation of The Lambs in the Green Hills to "Tha na h-Uain air an Tulaich" is credited to Seonaidh Ailig Mac a' Phearsain aka John Alick MacPherson (1937-2017), a native Gaelic speaker. https://www.bbc.co.uk/alba/oran/orain/tha_na_h_uain_air_an_tulaich/ Seonaidh Ailig Mac a' Phearsain air bàsachadh - Naidheachdan a' BhBC Scotsman newspaper obit and potted biography of Seonaidh Ailig |
