Subject: finding stuff on the internet From: Sorcha Date: 16 Jan 00 - 01:04 PM Seem to be getting a lot of requests for stuff that is relatively easy to find, so thought I'd put this up. Sometimes I have good luck just going to the Infoseek Home page and typing the title in the search box. If not try using a multi seach engine like Webferret, Northernlights, or Copernic2000. Webferret is my favorite because it's so user friendly, and I'm stoopid. It's a TUCOWS free download. |
Subject: RE: finding stuff on the internet From: _gargoyle Date: 16 Jan 00 - 01:41 PM You are only as "smart" as your search engines.
If you like cemeteries, and I sure do, you may have fun spending and hour "walking" through this site: Find a Grave by Name.
For the Ultimate in Search Engine Referral Pages I know of none better than Search Engine Colossus |
Subject: RE: finding stuff on the internet From: kendall Date: 16 Jan 00 - 02:56 PM very interesting site gargoyle thanks |
Subject: RE: finding stuff on the internet From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 16 Jan 00 - 09:52 PM I like the search engine Fastsearch because it is bigger than Alta Vista and lightning fast. (Really helps when I'm competing with kat in the "BS: Figure this out" thread!) And of course the new forum search engine here at the Mudcat is awesome. Mary PS I've found it quite helpful to read the help pages on various search engine sites and use the link: function. PPS I also use The Midi Search Engine. |
Subject: RE: finding stuff on the internet From: Sorcha Date: 16 Jan 00 - 09:56 PM You use SEARCH ENGINES for Figure This Out? You cheat! I thought we were s'posed to think of it out of our own sensetory!!! |

Subject: RE: finding stuff on the internet From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 16 Jan 00 - 10:04 PM If you're referring to the Midi Search Engine, I think I may have a link to one for wavs and MP3's. I'll look back through some stuff---I've picked up some good info from a Midi newsletter put out by the folks at About.com. Mary |
Subject: RE: finding stuff on the internet From: Sorcha Date: 16 Jan 00 - 10:10 PM I'm jealous........my speaker/MIDI has the flu. I don't think it's fatal, but the "CWBAUDIX.386" is disabled, and I need to refigure MPU401...????????? My sound board became disabled when I finally managed to get a printer installed because there was a port confict, and none of my engineer friends have had time to come over and re-port my sound card. I even bought a new sound card and it doesn' fit the !@#$ computer. Don't even try to tell me what to do, I wouldn't understand anyway. I'm a Luddite!! |

Never, criticize!!!!!
Your mentors should have taught you that!!!! They are always the first to vocalize complaints..........However, You Are A "FreeThinker" therefore, not bound by the past....
Let your spirit FREE.....!!!! |
Subject: RE: finding stuff on the internet From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 16 Jan 00 - 10:15 PM This one is pretty good too: http://www.dogpile.com
But Webferret is great for coming up with weird stuff that isn't quite what you were after, but takes you places you might want to go to anyway.
And it can get you exactly what you want too - I was trying to find klinks for the words and tune for "Linden Lea" to stick in a post on another thread that's going just now, ("What is a good voice"), and inside a minute I found two sites, one with a midi of the tune, and one with the words.) |
Subject: RE: finding stuff on the internet From: Sorcha Date: 16 Jan 00 - 10:22 PM Huh? Never criticize what? My speakers? My MIDI drive? My friends? My computer? EEEHHH??? My friend(s) will come over when they have time, I know that. In the meantime, my MIDI is BROKE. PS......all computers are female. S |
