Subject: Lemmy Brazil's No 2 From: Harry Rivers Date: 22 Aug 22 - 03:05 AM Can anyone point me in the direction of a recording of Lemmy Brazil playing "Lemmy Brazil's No 2", please? Cheers Harry |
Subject: RE: Lemmy Brazil's No 2 From: GUEST,Oriel Date: 22 Aug 22 - 03:22 AM As far as I know, this was learnt from Lemmy Brazil by someone who visited her. I don't know of any recordings - wish I did! |
Subject: RE: Lemmy Brazil's No 2 From: Reinhard Date: 22 Aug 22 - 03:43 AM Is that Lemmie Brazil's "Stepdance #2", track 23 on The Brazil Family: Down by the Old Riverside? |
Subject: RE: Lemmy Brazil's No 2 From: Harry Rivers Date: 22 Aug 22 - 08:17 AM I have no idea, Reinhard. I think "Lemmy Brazil's No 2" was collected by Paul Burgess and that's how it's generally referred to although sometimes (and probably more correctly) spelt "Lemmie". I have it on The English Country Dance Band's album, "Barn Dance", with Paul Burgess on fiddle, where it's called "Lemmie Brazil's" and played with "Soldier's Joy". Harry |
Subject: RE: Lemmy Brazil's No 2 From: leeneia Date: 22 Aug 22 - 12:18 PM If you go to YouTube and search for Lemmie Brazil, you will find many recordings. If you go to abcnotation.com and search for the shorter Lem Brazil, it will bring up 12 files, some with no. 1 and 2, some with just no. 2. On this site you can hear the tune, see the notation, get the abc or print the tune. |
Subject: RE: Lemmy Brazil's No 2 From: Harry Rivers Date: 22 Aug 22 - 02:13 PM leeneia, Do you patronise everyone or have I been singled out for special treatment? Back to my request . . . . I have the notation; I know how to play the tune. What I'm hoping is that someone on here may know of a recording of Lemmy herself playing the tune which doesn't show up on an internet search. Subject: RE: Lemmy Brazil's No 2 From: leeneia Date: 24 Aug 22 - 04:37 AM Oops. I didn't spot that you said you wanted a recording of Lemmy Brazil playing Lemmy Brazil's #2. Kind of thing that could happen to anyone. |
Subject: RE: Lemmy Brazil's No 2 From: Vic Smith Date: 25 Aug 22 - 10:38 AM Lemmie (or more properly Lemontina which I think is a wonderful name) can be heard on various commercially released albums, none of which are readily available these days: - Various Artists - Travellers : Songs,Stories and Tunes from English Gypsies ?(LP, Album) Topic Records 12TS395 1985 Various Artists - My Father's The King Of The Gypsies. Music Of English & Welsh Travellers & Gypsies. ?(CD, Album, Comp) Topic Records TSCD661 1998 Various Artists- Boshamengro -English Gypsy Musicians -Musical Traditions (MTCD373) For me she is best represented on the 3 album set that Rod Stradling released where she is heard alongside the other talented members of her very musical extended family on The Brazil Family: Down by the Old Riverside (MTCD345-7). |
Subject: RE: Lemmy Brazil's No 2 From: GUEST,Harry Date: 26 Aug 22 - 05:10 AM Thanks for the list, Vic. I'm aware of these albums and I have "My Father's The King Of The Gypsies". Do you know if the "No 2" is on the Rod Stradling set? I believe these are still available for £17. As reasonably priced as that seems, right now, with "fuel poverty" knocking on the door, I can't justify buying them on the off chance it's there. Harry |
Subject: RE: Lemmy Brazil's No 2 From: GUEST,matt milton Date: 26 Aug 22 - 06:13 AM Harry, that Rod Stradling set is much much cheaper as a download - a mere six quid. https://rodstrad.gumroad.com/?query=old+riverside |
Subject: RE: Lemmy Brazil's No 2 From: GUEST,Harry Date: 27 Aug 22 - 04:06 AM Thanks for the link, Matt. I may be huddled under a duvet in the depths of the coming winter but at least I'll have music to listen to. Having said that, it'll probably cost 50 quid to charge the batteries in my mp3 player by January. All the best Harry |
