Subject: Train songs written in Europe From: GUEST,Joan Hellmann Date: 21 Oct 22 - 11:14 AM I am looking for songs referencing trains or railroads that were written in Europe. I'm especially interested in songs written post WWII, when the fortunes of railroads in America and Europe diverged. If the lyrics are not in English, a pointer to a translation would be great! |

Subject: RE: Train songs written in Europe From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 21 Oct 22 - 01:13 PM I once submitted 'Het boemeltje van Purmerend' on one of these train threads. The moderator promptly deleted it. I suppose they had no understanding of the Dutch language and opted for unexplained deletion. It's a very fitting one though. Vashti Bunyan's Train song is perhaps an obvious enough choice. |
Subject: RE: Train songs written in Europe From: GUEST Date: 21 Oct 22 - 01:27 PM Het boemeltje van Purmerend During the seventies a Dutch folk/bluegrass group by the name of Chickenfeed (or was it Chickenfeet?) did a nice version of it but that doesn't seem to have made it to Youtube. They did record it though (and I may or may not still have the lp). I don't have the words but they should be online somewhere. |

Subject: RE: Train songs written in Europe From: Joe Offer Date: 21 Oct 22 - 04:01 PM Hi, Peter - I found your mention of "Het boemeltje van Purmerend" in this thread (click), but it was just a title and no lyrics or explanation. So, yeah, it was a little hard to figure out what to do with that. -Joe- joe@mudcat.org |
