Subject: Insight - Sing a song of Sixpence From: SPB-Cooperator Date: 22 Oct 22 - 07:20 AM In December my partner and I will be visiting Leipzig to see the Christmas market, and in advance I have just looked up local delicacies and saw a reference to Leipziger Lerche or Leipzig Lark Cake. Until the hunting of songbirds were banned in 1876, larks were roasted with herbs and eggs and used as a pastry filling. So the question is - is their a trail that indicates a crossover between the songs and the actual dish or are there documented UK recipes for British songbirds baked in pastry? From my understanding the first line and title alludes to Twelfth Night. |
