I’m surprised to search this and haven’t found a reference to it here yet. This is a percussion instrument used in Newfie folk music. It’s homemade and is very entertaining. I’ll post some samples soon.

Yes. They’re pretty much the same thing. I always thought they were great insteuments. Entertaining. Would love to make one soon.

Youtube has two videos. I've seen something similar used in South American music. Thanks, because I didn't know it is used in Newfoundland. I visited there in 2019 and have got fond of the place.
