I am very sorry to share the news that, on December 10, 2022, Alice Flynn (mudcatter Alice in MT) died of a sudden, unexpected heart attack at the age of 71. We had kept in touch through the years & I counted her a close friend even though we never met in person. She will be missed!

I'm very sorry to hear this. We used to have a bit of contact outside of Mudcat, as well as being in lot of the same discussions on the site.

Oh! I had been waiting for her to respond on a little Facebook group she was part of. She suffered a head injury several years ago (falling on a sidewalk) and had after effects and during tests while she was being treated they found cancer that she was then also treated for. It has been a rough stretch for our Alice Flynn.

Her paintings are remarkable. My condolences to her son and his family.

I'll miss Alice. I had some very interesting correspondence with her, and I always meant to find a reason to stop in on her in Montana. May she rest in peace. Her Website is no longer in operation, but here it is on the Wayback Machine:

Yes, to all of the above. It’s surprising what a close friendship the two of us had, seeing as we never met in person. That was one of the important things I learned from mudcat!

She had two Facebook pages, a personal one and an art project one. Here is Alice Flynn Art. I always meant, when I got a bit ahead, to buy a piece of her work. I love the way she made shadows work for her. Backgrounds suggested, subject clear and well-developed. This is a simple example.

I sent a note on Messenger to Ryan to ask if he planned to put a message on his mom’s 2 Facebook pages, but he hasn’t replied yet. Perhaps, I should call him. He’s a sweetheart! Jeri, he may very well have come on chat with her.

A valued friend and correspondent on Mudcat and by phone, though I have never met her in person, Alice was a wonderful person to know. She has sent me songs, served once as a liaison between myself and some travellers coming over by plane, source of good advice and stories. I even think that our generalities link up somewhere way back. I had been getting ready to send her a birthday greeting in a few days. We had fallen out of touch for a few years, but had recently reconnected by phone. She will be greatly missed by many.

Thanks to all for your sweet remembrances! I will be passing them along to Alice's son Ryan! Severn, I had recently sent her a birthday card, too. I doubt she received it, but, at least, we were thinking of her! For years, Alice & I were in contact at least once a month. Since her brain injury, two years ago, I made a point of sending email at least once a week to encourage her & keep in touch. I've considered her one of my nearest & dearest for many years, despite never meeting in person!

And now the grieving begins. Alice had recently told me about a Christmas movie set in her town of Bozeman, Montana. It was only available on streaming pay per view until tonight, when it will be on Lifetime at 8 PM. I would have loved to tell her I was going to watch it!

I never heard Alice sing either.

I did very much appreciate her written contributions to Mudcat discussions.

Wayback doesn't have any soundfiles of Alice Flynn, but there are some recordings available on youtube, some of which are illustrated by herself.
