OH, WE DON'T HAVE TO FIGHT LIKE THE INFANTRY
(Tune: The Old Gray Mare)

Oh, we don't have to fight like the Infantry
Shoot like Artillery,
Ride like the Cavalry;
We don't have to fly over Germany.
We are the Q.M.C.
The Q.M.C., the Q.M.C.
We don't have to fly over Germany.
The Q.M.C.

Sung by Joseph G. The Q.M.C. is the Quartermaster Corps. Learned in 1948.

SONG OF THE KIWI

Oh, I don't have to fight like the Infantry
Fight like the Cavalry
Fight like Artillery,
Oh, I dont't have to fly over Germany,
For I'm a Ki-wi-wi.
I'm a Ki-wi-wi,
I'm a Ki-wi-wi,
Oh, I don't have to fight like the Infantry,
Fight like the Cavalry
Fight like Artilery,
Oh, I don't have to fly over Germany,
For I'm a Ki-wi-wi.

From "Ye A.E.F. Hymnal."

This is from MUD AND STARS: AN ANTHOLOGY OF WORLD WAR SONGS AND POETRY, EDITED BY DOROTHEA YORK, 1931.

Although the editor, Dorothea York, says the song is from Ye A.E.F. Hymnal, this variant doesn't appear in the 1919 edition quoted above.

I'm in the Lord's Army

(to the tune of 'The Old Grey Mare')   Actions are in blue!

I may never march in the Infantry,   (march)
Ride in the cavalry,   (pretend you're riding a horse)
Shoot the artillery.   (clap hands together)
I may never zoom o'er the enemy,
(spread arms out and pretend to be a plane)
But I'm in the Lord's Army.   (point one finger up to God)
I'm in the Lord's Army, (yes, sir!)   (salute)
I'm in the Lord's Army, (yes, sir!)
I may never march in the Infantry,
Ride in the cavalry,
Shoot the artillery.
I may never zoom o'er the enemy,
But I'm in the Lord's Army, (yes, sir!)

Thanks to Holly for sending this verse in!
