I first met his work in the 70s when I worked in a Federal Government Library that held New Scientist. Grimbledon Down was brilliant & in later years I've spent time reading thru his cartons & will do a google search in his memory!

I loved the Cloggies and the Fosdyke Saga. My early working career always saw me with a copy of the Daily Mirror spread out at dinner time and I am sure thet were both in that but Wiki tells me the Cloggies were in Private Eye. Ah well. Just shows how memory plays tricks on you!

RIP Mr Tidy. Part of my passage into aldulthood!

I believe I'm most familiar with his work from reading Punch magazine.
At any rate, I always liked his deceptively simple but expressive style.

It was Bill Tidy's cartoon that inspired Les Barker's "Have You Got Any News of the Iceberg?"

He was also rumoured to have played trombone in Stackstead's Band for Brittania (a.k.a Bacup Nutters) on the Easter Saturday day of dance.

Being the 'keeper of the flame' here for BBC Schools broadcasts, it would be remiss of me not to mention that Bill Tidy illustrated booklets for the BBC schools service, including 'Music Session 1971 Spring'.
I'll make it downloadable in a folder of all pages, with some additional pages at the end to make it easier to 'stitch together' illustrations which spread over two pages.
