Does anyone know anything about this. I'm told it is on May 13th at the Foxlowe Centre, but all Google can find is a picture from last year.
I do know there will be a ceilidh 7.30 -11 as I'm sharing the calling with Victoria Berringer.

If anyone is going to Leek call in at the Wilkes Head in the town centre. The landlord (Moggie) is a great guitarist, banjo player and singer .............. he's also as mad as a box of frogs but great company and keeps great beers. Tell him Sister Mary recommended the place!.

Leek is a town NE of Stoke-on-Trent, England.

Coincidence. Just a couple of days ago, I cooked the very first dish I have ever made with leeks. The DH came home with two of them, and I found a recipe for Chicken and Leeks online and prepared it. He loved it.

As we've gone slightly sideways,,,
Living and working so close to Leek I'd forgotten the vegetable homonym amusement ;)
And I'd never before wondered where the word for the vegetable came from ,,,

Leeks (Allium ampeloprasum), members of the Alliaceae family.
https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/agricultural-and-biological-sciences/allium-ampeloprasum

Herbaceous annual plant of the Liliaceae family
https://globalsymbols.com/symbolsets/arasaac/symbols/16390

That second link gives translations into several languages; seems only the English, Americans & Germans say 'leek' (German 'Lauch').

__________________________
Nor had I wondered about the place name.

,,,Leak in the North Riding of Yorkshire, Leake in Lincolnshire and Nottingham or Leek in Staffordshire. All these places are named from the Olde Norse elements "loekr" meaning a "brook".
https://www.surnamedb.com/Surname/Leek

In the Domesday Book Leek was 'Lec'
https://opendomesday.org/place/SJ9856/leek/

btw
Wiki says about 'lake'
from Middle English lake ('lake, pond, waterway'), from Old English lacu ('pond, pool, stream'), from Proto-Germanic *lako ('pond, ditch, slow moving stream'), from the Proto-Indo-European root *le?- ('to leak, drain'). Cognates include Dutch laak ('lake, pond, ditch'), Middle Low German lake ('water pooled in a riverbed, puddle') as in: de:Wolfslake, de:Butterlake, German Lache ('pool, puddle'), and Icelandic lækur ('slow flowing stream'). Also related are the English words leak and leach.
