Bill Meek passed away in June 2023. Although he was known worldwide he was a true inhabitant of Grimsby where he was a teacher, folklorist, footballer, musician and songwriter. He co-wrote many songs with John Conolly who was a very good mate of his including "Broadside Man" and "One More Before We Go." He was a member of Grimsby Folk Club from the very beginning and was instrumental in successfully asking Paul Simon to come and play for the club. He will be greatly missed. RIP Bill

A great loss to local heritage songwriting. Condolences to family and friends, particularly John C. We (Spare Hands) recorded his 'Lincoln Castle' and it is amongst our most requested and well-loved songs.
