Tickle them ivories, Anna However, I'm wondering about the last (repeated) line. I hear
And if we're still standing we're carried off 'round nine ... or ...
And if we're still standing we'll carry on 'round nine The Commercial Road LP cover shows a cut titled "East End Ding Dong", but I can't find an online recording. I assume it's the same song, perhaps with extra verses?

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: East End Ding Dong (Digance) From: Long Firm Freddie Date: 30 Oct 23 - 05:24 AM You're welcome, cnd. I think "And if we're still standing, we'll carry it on round mine" is correct. And from the CD of Commercial Rosd: East End Ding Dong Richard Digance Ev’ry Saturday night, we all got tight In the public bar of the Guiding Light We’d sing a song, get it half wrong Then along came Olivia Newton-John Now there’s Ian Dury, who don’t talk proper like me Tell you one thing, our old boozer ain’t what it used to be Oh! We all had a sing-song A right old East End ding dong Now Sid never cared, sharp or flat He just played a bit of this and that Now we’ve got this disco and it costs a couple of quid Whatever happened to the old days, yeah whatever happened to Sid? There’s flashing lights and lamé tights To wear at a singalong Saturday nights There’s Boney M singin’ in style, all I want is “Any Old Iron!” Now there’s blasted Blondie, she’s something made of glass Bring back Vera Lynn and stick them discos up the yard We all had a sing-song A right old East End ding dong Now Sid never cared, sharp or flat He just played a bit of this and that Now we’ve got this disco and it costs a couple of quid Whatever happened to the old days, yeah whatever happened to Sid? Whatever happened to the old days, yeah whatever happened to Sid? Ev’ry Saturday night, we all got tight In the public bar of the Guiding Light We all crooned out of tune By the Light of the Silvery Moon The Landlord called last orders We went home to our beds No one sang on Sunday nights ‘Cause we all ‘ad ‘orrible ‘eads We all had a sing song A right old East End ding dong Now Sid never cared, sharp or flat He just played a bit of this and that Now we’ve got this disco and it costs a couple of quid Whatever happened to the old days, yeah whatever happened to Sid? Oh, we all had a sing-song A right old East End ding dong Now Sid never cared, sharp or flat He just played a bit of this and that Now we’ve got this disco and it costs a couple of quid Oh, whatever happened to the old days, yeah whatever happened to Sid? Oh, we all had a sing-song A right old East End ding dong Now Sid never cared, sharp or flat He just played a bit of this and that Now we’ve got this disco and it costs a couple of quid Oh, whatever happened to the old days, yeah whatever happened to Sid? Subject: Lyr Req: East End Ding Dong (Digance) From: cnd Date: 24 Oct 23 - 08:19 PM Looking for help transcribing the lyrics to the Richard Digance song, East End Ding Dong. It's on the album Commercial Road, though my recording is from a live show shared with my by Guest Allan a few years back. I have most of the words, but am looking for help with one, which sounds like "Sickle long my Ruth Anna" or something to that effect. Sadly, I could not find a recording online, but am hoping someone on here will recall. I can also share the file upon request via PM. We all had a sing-song A right-old east end ding-dong Now we never cared, sharp or flat We just played a bit of this and that S???? my Ruth Anna, ????? on more time And if we're still standing, we'll cary it on round mine And if we're still standing, we'll cary it on round mine |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: East End Ding Dong (Digance) From: cnd Date: 27 Oct 23 - 12:49 PM The word may be "sing along", but I'll have to wait and check once I'm back at my computer this evening. I have to think I'd have figured that one out the first time around, but maybe not. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: East End Ding Dong (Digance) From: cnd Date: 27 Oct 23 - 11:12 PM Here's the song I'd like help transcribing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfALYL7C1oc I don't think my previous suggestion, sing along, is right. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: East End Ding Dong (Digance) From: cnd Date: 29 Oct 23 - 02:53 PM That sounds right, thank you LFF. |
